anyone using these on a big block?? I'm changing mine and want to know of any issues. Can they be painted? Is there galvanic reaction between the housing and block ?

Yes, I painted mine to match block. (Not into the bling crap on my engines) Also used a sacrificial anode in the system to protect it. Have used both the MP version and the Mancini version. No problems yet with either one after a couple of years of use.

On one car I don't have the heater hoses installed, so I just used one of the ports for the heater hose nipples in the pump housing for the anode. Works nicely.

On the second car I had to install the anode in the lower radiator where the drain petcock goes. Just used a tee and have both the anode and the drain petcock. Not as pretty and clean, but still works fine.

Even if you leave it aluminum finish, it's best to shoot it with a good high heat clear coat. As cast aluminum gets to lookin like hell after a while gettin all stained up. I'm gonna use one myself, but plan on painting it black like the rest of the engine. I'm not crazy about blingly lookin stuff, either. It has its place and can look great.....just not my thing.

Tell me more about what you used for the sacrificial anode. I,m using aluminum heads waterpump and radiator and noticed some light corosion around my thermostat housing inside.Oh and I agree as the aluminum gets old it looks crappy. I powdercoated my carb body,intake,waterpump and housing. Left the heads natural to break it up some.

I just replaced the old cast iron intake and water pump house with an aluminium one. Must 60 lbs I dropped. Plus they look good. Sorry, I like a little bling.
