Mopar tuff wheel, reproduction part..adaptor?

I finally gave up on getting a good blue steering wheel for the 71 Charger. I have decided to go with the aftermarket leather grip Tuff wheel and I have a basic 71 steering column. I asked Classic Industries about the MW752 and they say you don't need an adaptor with a Mopar column? So why did the original Tuff wheels need the adaptor, yet the "original style" reproduction wheel does not?

Decided to call back a second time to "re-verify"....lol The tech spoke to a "2nd tech manager" and was told from them, "as long as he is using a 71 B-body Mopar column it will bolt on. It would need an adapter for an E-body but not B-body".

So is a B-body column longer so that it does not need the extra depth that an adapter would add?

I did make sure that they noted in my order that I called to confirm adatper/no adapter. Hopefully it works, if not...back to square one!
 
I have a 74 B and I have a tuff wheel and absoutly need the adapter. The old wheel is a deepdish type and the tuff id basicly flat. When I set them on the counter side by side, the adapter mekes up for the difference in depth. I have delt with Classic and thier knowledge is hit and miss. Should you check the fine print in the back of thier book it states that they are not responsable for mistakes by them. Talking to them they will tell you they will "make every effort" Bottom Line Fine Print Wins.
When it comes to tuff wheel imho MCB is the way to go.
 
You will need the adapter to put the Tuff wheel on your '71. Used is your only option as they are not being reproduced.

E body adaptor is longer, has an "accordian" profile and easier to find, not to mention cheaper.

A/B body is the same part, shorter than the E body part, smooth, and unfortunately has experienced a price run up recently.

You can use an E body "can" but ti will put the wheel really close to you.

IIRC, a truck can (yes they did), although almost as hard to find, can be made to work. It looks just like the A/B can, but has no master spline.
 
I saw that DRMOPAR has two cars with blue steering wheels, I think they are near S.A or Austin
 
I asked Santa for the grant tuff steering wheel. But he said his sleigh is a Ford, so it will arrive in June 2020..
 
You definitely will need an adapter if your car did not have one already. The short smooth side one like in the picture below is the correct one for A and B bodies. I found an aftermarket one made out of aluminum by Flaming River that I think will work. It was on Classic Industries sight for $119 Part number MW 716.

If you choose to go aftermarket go MCB or Flaming river.

Forgot about those.

F and J body should be the same as A/B body.
