I just read an article on how Charlie Rangel (D-NY) is introducing a bill that would require women to register for the draft when they turn 18 just like the guys have to. I don't much care for Rangel, but hey - even the blind squirrel finds a nut from time to time, and I think this is Charlie's nut!
I think it would be priceless to see the reactions of all the women who have been yelling "We want equal rights!", "You go Sister!", or "Women must be heard!" from the sidelines of the women in combat debate when they find out they got exactly what they were asking for... a nice healthy dose of the American nightmare of being involuntarily called up to make little money, live in bad conditions, have few rights, and have the opportunity to die for your country all at the same time. How great would it be to watch gals like Sandra Fluke being forced to go down and register for the draft and start worrying about a call up like us guys?
I would sure love to see this bill pass. The outrage and hysteria from the crowd formerly known as the Pro-Women-In-Combat would be the best spectacle since the Roman Games.
And who knows, maybe this could set a precedent for pro-men bills like maybe one giving preference to awarding child custody to the parent who's best set financially instead of to a mom who has no job and wants to live off child support payments for decades to come.
