Hey, I'm new to the forum and would like to show you my long-time dream come almost true. Just about done, now working out the bugs. I am no mechanic and would have probably done a few things differently now, but it is a Sunday driver only. This car is my version of the triple-black 1973 Dodge Charger I wished I could have done to my Charger back when I was 17 years old... You see my first car was a 1973 triple-white Charger and like most 17 year old boys, never had the funds to fix it up like I would have liked to. Now I'm 54 years old and have been thinking about what I would like to do for some while now. I remember seeing a 1973 triple-black Charger, 440 Magnum w/ a bulge hood, at a used car lot when I was a kid and thought I would like to have that some day. So I finally bought a triple black 1973 Charger in 2004 and have been studying and buying parts for the car up until July of 2012. For the past 7 long months I have been using every free moment to restore this old beauty along with a local shop. I gave some thought into fixing it up stock, but preferred the resto-mod look. However I have seen very few '73 chargers pull this look off well. (though many have tried) I approached this build like what I feel the factory should have offered w/ a few liberties, but hey it's my money to "waste" as I see fit. I know some purist may choke at my version of my "Dream 1973 Charger", but as I said it has been my dream to do for some while.

Anyway, enough about the history. This has been a ground-up restoration/modifacation. It came stock with a 400 2 barrel w 727 auto, now has a built 440, bore .30 over, with ported MP aluminum heads, rebuilt transmission, single plane intake, Purple shaft cam w/ 590 lift and 712 duration, compression is 10.9 to 1, roller rockers, 750 Proform race carb. 8 3/4 rearend w/ 391 suregrip. Lowered 1" in the rear and 1.5" in the front. Front end and steering has been rebuilt. Custom interior and custom dash w/ white face guages. Custom made front billet grill. Front and rear bumpers recessed 1.25". Has a 2400-2800 stall convertor, but will probably have to bump that up to a 3500 stall.

great Job:headbang:, Had a good friend with a red 73 in high school, had a lot of fun in that Charger! best wishes! CD

Welcome and looks great so far. I like the concept pic in your avatar. Are you going with a black hood stripe like that?

Looking good! Love what you have done to the gauge cluster!

Car looks SWEET.

Man those are some sticky tires...

Nice, we are building a 73 also we are at the paint stage, ours was a 318 car that we are dropping a 440 in,what did you use as an oil pan on yours? Ours is gonna be satin black with all the trim given the brushed look and gunmetal gray painted bumpers, steeley wheels with dog dishes.

The avatar was from an old article in hot rod magazine, it is a rendering from a designer named Hermance. Yes, I plan to put the satin graphic on the bulge of the hood

I have to ask, how much did that grill cost to make? I want one like it without the center split like the 70's had. Im broke as hell right now but thar grill is beautiful. Man i wish i had fabrication skills.

Bought some 1/8"x1" aluminum flat stock, cut each piece to length with a spacer in between, then polished one edge, taped off the polished edge and then etched, primed and painted the rest black. You could use allthread to hold them together or weld a brace to back on each side. It's been years since I did that part, I don't remember the cost. It didn't cost much, but was time consuming.

Milodon 7 quart, but have some concerns about ground clearance since I lowered the stance. Also interferes with turning radius to some degree.
