Getting ready to paint the 360 for my 68 Coronet, i really like the factory red that the SB's came with but I'm not sure how its going to look in a black car. Anyone have some pics of red smallblocks in a black car?

It should look awesome. Red accent or a red engine in a black engine bay/car would look sharp as hell .. but so would orange IMO.

Maybe it stems from my youth, accused of scratching eng comp paint while tuning up a slant-6. But if there's anything I dislike about Mopars, it's body-color eng comp... especially the brighter colors. Black, or even white, seems to focus attention to the engine. And red looks great in a black basket !

Man, that's one of the things I love the MOST about Mopars!!

Seeing how the engine color looks next to the body color.

Noting wrong with orange on yellow, and red on black is hard to beat.

I think a red engine in a black car would look real sharp.Post pix if you do it.

That's what sets Mopars apart! :love5:

Even the 'other' brands often get matching engine bays when going the custom route. :penguins paint pixi

That's because they know it makes the car look more customized...and the owners secretly want their cars to look like ours. :eusa_shhh:

I am sorry for your prior experience but engine compartments are painted body color .. end of

Gotta agree that's one of the coolest things about mopars. Even though mine is black, not by my choice.

Red Block

Here is a pic of a red block and black engine bay, the previous owner painted it this way, been debating whether to go back to the correct torquoise.

what do you think ChargerRTguy?

In the end .. do what you like

Since the car is red with black vinyl top and black interior been leaning to keep with the red & black theme...

Thanks for the pic ChargerRT, thats what I needed to see. The red on black is going to look good

I also like the stock engine colors no matter what color the car is. Ford also painted their engine compartments black and the little 289 that was painted Ford Blue looked lost in the back gut of my old 66 Mudstain....not to mention the black compartment made seeing things more difficult and now I'm in my early 60's and not seeing as well as I did 40 years ago, I really hate black engine compartments. Throw a black engine into that and try and see things in lousy light...ie, our 2000 Durango that's black.

I agree, I'm not a fan of the blacked out engine compartment, I like body color to match and the rest of the car is going to be black. I think the original 68 red engine color is going to look good in there, the hemi orange would look a little too "Chevy" I think

Red block

Here is another red block in a black engine bay.
