Hi- What does Special Motor mean?

Block = PT 440 S 2469 0503

The PT is Trenton Plant

440 = 440 CI Motor

S = Special Motor..........What does this mean????

2469 = May 1[SUP]st[/SUP], 1968

0503 = Last 4 of Vin

I am not aware of any 68 440's marked as a PT 440. Should be D440. Check the casting date on the block by the motor mount. Also VIN stamps for 68 are usually on the bell housing flange by the oil sender. I suspect you have some late model engine out of a motor home but that's just a guess.

Looks like you're right on except the last 4 are not end of VIN, they are build sequence so that was the 503rd engine assembled. The S stands for service and is found on warranty engines.

For the engine assembly code, PT would be correct for the assembly plant (Trenton). The D, indicating model year would be on the front pad.

To the OP...Is the block stamped HP on the front pad?
