I've been bummed out over my car since I had some half assed crap body work done by someone I trusted.... To make a long story short, I have hated the site of this car for the last three years!!! After many offers from friends and body shops to paint or primer the car black for $2500 all the way up to $15000, I decided I've had enuff of this BS... While I really appreciate my friends offering to help me out, I am not about to spend anything over $1000 at this time for any kind of paint.... So here's what I did. After getting some encouragement from a friend on what to do, I spent around $200 for a gallon of Black paint, 300 grit sandpaper and a HVLP paint gun, I found the look I am after.... I'm not wanting any fancy-pants show car paint job, I want menacing, wicked, sadistic, BADASS!!!! This is exactly what I was after!!! I will bump another thread that has what the car looked like before I painted this.... 1965 Plymouth Blackout.jpg

Looks cool, Brian - I like it!

i have no problem with it. its your car and you should do what makes you happy.thats whats wrong with our country.to many people trying to impress other people who could care less about them.

Evil, just evil.

Brian looks mean;)
Also looks like 'vinyl wrap' which is all the rage now.

Looks really cool now ...well done on the DIY paint job. :headbang:

turned out good.nothing like saving $14,800,and making it the way you want it.

I will probably be doing the same thing to mine. Did you just paint over the old paint or prime also? Is that just flat or semi gloss black paint or a matte like clear coat?

I stripped what I could and taped off what I couldn't... Sanded the whole car with 300 grit and wiped it clean. I used John Deere Blitz Black and also used John Deere Paint Thinner. I spray canned the first two coats (dries quick). After a day, I bought the gallon can of paint and the thinner as well as the paint gun. I didn't use any thinner the first couple of coats. It had a texture, not real smooth which is what I was looking for. If you want it smooth, add thinner. The paint dries quick, once we were done with one side, we moved to the other then right back to the initial side. 20 minutes after the final coat, we pulled the tape and paper, put all the trim, bumpers back on and admired what we did.... Google the John Deere Blitz Black, becoming very popular, not mixing except to thin it out!!! Very easy!

What I want to know, is the engine as bad *** as the paint job?

I actually used a similar paint on my '67 Chevelle, awesome you got your car the way you want it and it definitely looks mean as hell!

I like it.
Here is my story with JD Blitz black. I needed to paint the hood of my Charger and thought I'd go the BB way. Could not get it to lay down flat or without streaks. Ended up sanding it off and spraying the hood with SEM Hot Rod Black. The stuff is slick! It stays wet for a long time and dries very flat (smooth) and streak free. It was more money than the $11/qt Deere paint, like $70/qt for paint, reducer and hardener.
Glad the Deere paint worked out for you and got you the results you were looking for. Just didnt work for me.

It looks great ! Go out and enjoy the car. Ron

Wow, that looks kinda familiar... :)

'cept mine is more badder asser than yours!

A+ for you...I think it looks mean and bad...you did a great job...took guts to do but you went for it...Marla
