I recently acquired this manifold and it went on the car this week. Essentially one of my mechanic's other customers bought a 70 RR and this manifold was new in the box in the trunk and he had no intention of using it (keeping stock all around) so I wound up with it.

Has anyone used or familiar with this manifold I'd like to hear your opinions as the jury is sort of out for me right now.... Also I know this manifold is being recommended as part of the performer package with a specific cam from Edelbrock

P.S. I came across this good article:

Thanks again in advance for your help and thoughts,

I got one in a parts stash from a friend. I've had it listed on 3 different craigslist ads for months now without a single call.

Basically a stock manifold but aluminum. Maybe a little over stock.

There aint much diff in any of them on the Hotrod article.

I've only taken one long drive in mine since it was installed... now all this being said my carb took a lot of tuning also so here's what I noticed... acceleration was a lot smoother and pulled harder up top. I find my engine revs low though (seems to redline around 4300... this is with 3:23's!) I've been thinking this motor needs a cam for quite some time but the mechanic I use doesn't want to recommend one without doing a full re-build and balancing the engine himself and I'm not great at figuring out what mild application I need to put this motor around 5500-6000 where I think it would be a lot happier

I agree. The Weiand Action Plus is a much better starting point, IMO. Now, you can make a nice improvement on the Performer by adding a 1" open spacer if you have the hood room.

matching parts is how you make good power and torque.having all your parts build power in the same rpm range works much better then mixing diff operational ranges.a cam making power from idle to 4500 rpms will run like crap with a manifold that is designed to build power from 3000 to 7000 rpms.heads need to flow enogh to match that range,it all works together.edelbrock, and others, make those kits to take away your guess work.

I agree 67 Coronet... and logically enough I'm looking at that cam right now with serious consideration...

I use Edelbrock Performer on 383 RR with factory pattern cam. It's been on the car for about 20 years. For street manners and part throttle I like it better than the old Torker single plane that I had before the Performer. I had an iron 1970-something spread-bore manifold for a while, but it needed an adapter to run carbs other than Thermoquad, so I replaced it with the Performer when I gave up on Thermoquads.

The Performer does what it's supposed to do and I'm not sure there would be any dramatic difference between any low-rise dual plane intake that's available now. I think about switching to a vintage iron manifold or M1 dual plane sometimes just because I'm tired of looking at the Performer.

I have that manifold on my 496 stroker (the 383 block variety)with no spacers. 555 hp 620 lb/ft of torque. .588 lift cam and it has decent street manners and good power throughout the band. You give up a little top end horse for lower end torque but all and all no complaints.
