As I continue to look to make our '67 Belvedere a little more reliable and give it a touch more grunt I am planning to replace the stock 2 barrel carb and intake on the 318.

I am going with an Edelbrock - 1406 carb on a Performer Intake Manifold - 2176 based on the huge number of comments on this being a great combination for a weekend driver. I know I need gaskets for the carb and manifold but is there a preferred brand or are the Edelbrock gaskets as good as any? Should I also grab intake bolts? Studs for the carb mounting? What is a good air cleaner? Is there anything else I should be grabbing to do this? I am not wanting to get started on it and need to stop for stuff I could easily have had on hand ahead of time.

Thanks!

I have run that combo on many small blocks. Like anything it all depends on your budget. Edelbrock gaskets are good same as Felpro.
Use the thick Edelbrock base gasket. Studs are a good Idea.
The intake is a spread bore so watch that you center the base gasket for no vacuum leaks.
If it fits you budget the E-bay shown above is nice for looks and function.
I prefer a factory style early 68-69 340 to use the breather from the valve cover to housing. But that's just me.
In the photo I used the top housing off a Slant Six and a aftermarket base and filter.
Photos are from a 68 Valiant that I had.

That is clean looking. The wife likes to see some bling so I am thinking something like the Edelbrock one but I wanted to ask because I was worried about possible clearance issues. I also see that it looks like you changed out your coolant fitting on the manifold.

The New Edelbrock manifold has the off set thermostat housing for A/C .Now this depends on the age of the manifold..
Also many different ports for heater hose hook up to fit many years.Or for temp gauges.
If buying used they may be different. I also painted it with fuel resistant ceramic spray paint.
I believe Rust-Oleum.It was a few years ago.

I had not really thought about painting it. I am thinking we will leave it raw aluminum for now. If we ever go into the engine deeper and maybe do something with the cam and/or the heads we will revisit what we are wanting to do there.
