Not to slight the non-RoadRunner guys out there, other B Bodies have a significance in their own right. The 68 RoadRunner however is always ranked very high as one of the most significant muscle cars of all time. As high as number 2 depending on what list you see, ranked behind the 65 GTO. The 68s claim to fame was big horsepower that everybody could afford. So I want to see if the Plymouth marketing gurus were right.

Let’s see what you paid, in what condition, in what year and how much you think you will spend on it while you have it, all years not just the 68.

I paid $1,250 in 1978, 64,000 miles, very solid car on a fresh overhaul (60 over on a nasty cam) ran like a striped assed ape in 78.
The original odometer reads ~101,000 now, the current restoration budget is $50,000 (unless of course I change my mind on a few details.)

I'm curious.

1968GTX, (not a RR, but close) Paid $1350.00 in 1972 with 15K on the odometer. Now it has 41K. Restoring it now. Not keeping track of the Moola. Don't need alot, but paint is a Major Major expense!

$4200 in 1982 !! Bird 1982.jpgPicture 219.jpg

Wow, $1,350, for a 68 GTX. You're right, not a bird, better. Same song, socond verse.... or first verse depending on how you look at it.

216 miles on a 512 Stroker. $24,800 dollars later, in 2013:

Further revenue will probably be spent on obnoxious amounts of gas and tickets.

Paid $450.00 for my WW1 68 383 RR in 1982. Bought it not running but with a rebuilt engine that was never started. It sat in the guys back yard for about 5 yrs, so I estimate it was rebuilt back in the mid to late 70's. I also got the left overs from his 69 RR, which included the air grabber hood, engine and tranny. I still have the air grabber hood.

I bought my 69 R4 383 RR about 7 yrs ago for $3500.00. Very clean body and minimal rust. Came with a 440 that was installed but not drivable. That engine after a rebuild is now in my 66 Belvedere. The cool part of this story is I first saw this RR back in 82/83 but couldn't come up with the $900.00 or $1000.00 for the body. The engine was long gone but everything else was there. Even so, the asking price was way out of line for a RR body when running ones were $900.00. A buddy eventually bought it and got it going then I lost track of him and the car.

FF 20+ yrs and I finally went to my buddies old neighborhood, knocked on his door and explained to the current resident that I used to hang out here. He gave me the condensed version of the last 20 yrs and finished by saying Larry's old red Dodge is in that yard over there. The guy that had it also knew me and finally sold me the car. And had it not been for my persistence it would have got away again. So when someone says they will call you when they decide to sell the car don't believe them! Just keep pestering the wife until he cracks.

God that thing is gorgeous Prop. Your body man deserves a blow job from

Whoa! Hit the brakes. Budnicks is a good guy and I wouldn't direct or condone any sort of such activity of a man of his stature and/or character. Maybe you guys have an off record accord to ruffle each others feathers with daring excursions and lingo, but myself I think he's a pretty straight forward level headed fella. Thanks for the compliment, I did most of the body (besides laying on primer/paint).

$3000 in 2012 and this what she looks like now.

Soon enough Roxanne will be hearing the music of the tires winding down the highway Roadbird. Arm out the window, other hand gripped to the wheel and nothing but a big ol' grin on your face. All of a sudden all those headaches, long nights and empty pockets are replaced instantly with a feeling that is was worth every bit of it. Keep pegging away, you'll get there.

How much did I pay for my RR, which one I'm on # 13 now, as little as $300 in the 70's & in 2005 $6k for a Calif. car from the Sacramento Calif. Area it's whole life, complete, running & driving 68 RR RM23 with decore package, nearly completely rust free, near perfect interior, 383ci/727tf/8.750", 67k mile car, that had a big crease down the whole drivers side, I fixed/metal prepped with all the original steel, the car I'm working on now {very slowly, still not done and about $25k later, when all said & done...LOL}... I sold my old car another "Silver/Black Beast" 68 RR RM23 383/479ci-6bbl 727tf back in late 2007 "I think it was", that I had at the same time... I bought in 2000 "I think it was", for $2500, running & driving, typical worn out muscle car, I had too many projects, got bored, I wanted something different... I sold it to an old drag racing buddy for $28k that ran in the high 9.70's 135mph pretty consistently @ 3520#'s {still does} & high 8.50's 156mph with a 300 shot of N20 & a single 1350 Dominator instead of the 6bbl set-up, 3.73:1 gear instead or the 4.30:1 or latter 3.91:1 gears with out N20 & a trick 6bbl... I still have parts of the 6bbl & A12 hood off that car, on my current car, the new owner wanted the single Dominator/N20 & my stock 68 RR hood off my current car...

I did that to get him to pipe up Prop. I knew he had a story to tell. That body is super straight though, at least in that picture. Sorry about the spelling, never was much good at it that's why I typically stick to Bud.

$5500 in 2004 - '73 Road Runner - 440 - fully functional - 50 footer.

In retrospect, more than I should have - and it got worse from there ha ha ha.

Bought a 1970 Road Runner in 1990 for $500 and drove the wheels off it. Bought a 69 Runner in 1991 for $400. Was a 383 4 speed car with power windows but that was about it as far as options. Was a total rusted POS. I still have the entire drive train in my 70 Bee now.

Bought my 73 340 Roadrunner in 1983 for 1,600, had 100K on the clock, drove it for 13 years, then it sat in the garage for 15 years, now being restored for the past 2 years.

Bought my 69 RR in 1986 for $200. $3000 for motor rebuild. About $800 in floor pans, crossmember, rear window corners, $300 in material so far. Still have to buy trunk floor, frame rails, quarter skins, vinyl top, all new interior panels and seat covers. Not to mention the paint. Also all the shop equipment I had to buy to repair the car. mig welder, sander(s). In 1979 I bought a 74 RR for $700 minus $200 trade in I got for a 66 chevy bel air. Didn't put hardly put any money into it. Was already a driver car. Totaled in 1984 from 4 separate accidents. Last one finally took it out of commission.

I paid $3,300.00 for my '69 in 1995 at Carlisle and drove it home. I still have it.
