Hello fellow B bodians.

So... here are my thoughts. My 69 Superbee is getting ready to get color. There's a thread under restorations, recording the progress under: "69 Superbee Hemi Orange white tail stripe white interior".

The car is not a matching numbers car. I'm torn between using the proper 69 Chrysler V2 Base/clear which has an ever so slight aluminum flake in it or using a modern 2013 Dodge RT Hemi orange color which had more of a pearl in it. A couple of things come to mind.

1) Would it affect the value of the car? Remember it's not a matching number car. The car is being restored
factory original with the exception of front disc brakes and power steering.

2) Has anyone ever seen the old V2 next to the modern Hemi orange? I'd love to see a picture of them side by side, but I can't find one online.

3)What is your preference? I kinda like the idea of putting my own twist on it without defacing the car.

Please put your thoughts down below... THANKS!!!

I don't think the color change will affect the top sales price as long as it's well done either way and I'm guessing unless you put it next to an original car with V2 vs new color it would press most people, even mopar people to know the difference other than it's a modern clear coat paint although my thinking is the modern color is a little lighter looking based on seeing one or two around.

I reserve my right to change my mind on the last part if someone comes up with pics of them next to each other but not the price part.

I vote new. I did a test panel of sublime and sassy grass green side buy side, then a third panel with 2012 green with envy (new version of sublime but with pearl and metallic). Green with envy hands down. Ask the paint shop to make up a rattle can of each color and do a side by side comparison. Rattle cans are about 20.00 per but we are talkin about 600.00 plus a gallon paint, so better to be sure! Good luck.

I agree you need to either paint some test panels or get two cars side by side, then paint it what you like.

Are you planning on selling or enjoying it? If you're building it to drive, build it the way you want. Besides, I don't think it will really affect the value one way or another.

No.. I'm not planning on selling it. But I also don't have a crystal ball. You never know what twist and turn, life might throw me and forces me to sell. I just want to make sure by putting the car in a modern shade with pearl doesn't knock value down 25%.
I like the modern color and I'm leaning that way. The painter said he could do some test pieces with both shades. I'm getting very excited about seeing in it color.

Please post when that happens. Would love to see the side by side on that.

I think your car is a pretty cool color combo. I would paint it the 69 color.

Hi there... For those still following the Superbee resto. It gets Color started in 1 week. Here is the 1969 V2 Hemi Orange VS. 2013 Hemi Orange.

Well that's 4-0 for the Old from the forum and 6-0 In real life (work and home). I will say, that aluminum flake in the old really pops up like a teenage boner when the sun hits it. I swayed my choice after seeing them side by side as well.. I like the old. I will wait a couple more days to give him my decision and order the paint.
This is exactly why I value the opinions of you guys here. Thanks!!!!
