Hey there guys, I have a true 71 GTX. I'm super new not only to muscle cars, but to the forum also. I'm really hoping someone can help me out. On the GTX there is an aluminum "plate" that runs from behind the front fender to in front of the back fender on each side of the car. What are these called? and where can I find them. Also looking for input on this car, i'm putting it on the rotisserie this month. Going to sandblast the underside. I already removed all the old factory undercoating with a heat gun and scraper which was a fun job:headbang:. Anyhow the input I'm looking for, is what many seem to ask. Should I Undercoat it, or Paint it. Well, here are my plans for it. I am planning on having it a clean street/strip car. Go to cruise night and whatnot. this being said, the underside isn't perfect, well maybe not yet, someone installed a new floor pan into it and did a shitty job, hence the rotisserie. going to have to do some welding/ brazing. Also what are any thoughts on Tying the frame?? Thanks a bunch in advance. Just a young buck wanting to get this beauty on the road for next summer.

Hello and welcome.
They are rocker moldings and for the 71 GTX are a one year and model only and can be pretty hard to find. Looks like the 70 Grand Coupe ones but are longer. Be prepared to pay around 200-300 for a set.

If i were you I'd check with 5.7 Hemi. He might be able to save the ones you have but will need some good pictures to see the da-mamage they have incurred I imagine.

Oh and head over to the welcome wagon and post up some more pics and anything you have to tell us about your car, your influences that led you to buy a Mopar (super cool one at that), etc.

Thanks Everyone for the input, I will have some more pictures of it put up in the near future over on the welcome wagon. I promise I will have the full story of it up in about a month. Its an incredible and unique story that I'm sure many will love. I seriously found this car "by accident". I am so pumped that so many other people are excited for me, I kind of needed this boost. Thanks so much guys!

As far as your undercoating question, if you're going to drive it I'd undercoat it. If you're worried about factory correct yours may have been undercoated although I think I remember seeing something that most undercoating jobs were done at the dealer but I could be wrong.
