Over the years my awesome tool collection has been picked apart by friends and family. I have a few random wrenches, pliers, and the wrong screw driver for the job. I am about ready to start fixing up my 67 coronet so I could really use a few good opinions on tool sets and roll aways. I am a baller on a budget. fyi.

TOOL SETS:
1) http://www.sears.com/craftsman-309-...0P?prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1&pickup=true

2) http://www.sears.com/craftsman-325-...0934325000P?prdNo=14&blockNo=14&blockType=G14 (I like the easy to read option)

3) http://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-Me.../203521156?N=c22xZ1z0uy5c?Nao=24#.UmhqX5TXjfg (I think is a pretty much option 1)

4) http://www.lowes.com/pd_220886-2542...L=?Ns=p_product_qty_sales_dollar|1&facetInfo= (not a huge Kobalt fan due to Lowe's has a terrible tool selection)

ROLL AWAYS:
1) http://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-32...el-3216SSCA5THD/203469296?N=c2gk#.UmhstpTXjfg

2) http://www.homedepot.com/p/Unbrande...Set-H4CH1-H4TR1/204337490?N=c2gk#.Umhs6ZTXjfg

3) http://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-27...rizontal1-3-_-NA-_-203259198-_-N#.UmhtNZTXjfg (Not sure if I need the deep drawers)

thanks for the help!!

I have some of the easy to read sockets. I really like that option as my reading eyes get less and less capable without my reading glasses. For your box, I'd recommend the deep drawers. I bought a box several years ago and I wish I had the deep drawers.

By now you should be able to tell what size it is by looking at the hex end.

I'd like to throw out a few websites to help. I too am on a budget and scrimp and save for new tools.

searsoutlet.com --- reduced/clearance items at the sears stores near you. Search by what you need or name brand and click the "Products Near You" tab.
garagejournal.com/forum -- Has a "Hot Deals" section where members post links to, well..... hot deals. Also has a classified section
tooltopia.com -- has daily deals
ebay.com cripe distributing --- good source for low priced tools with reasonable combined shipping

To be honest (and I'll catch flak for this) but if I had to buy all new tools and sockets I'd start at Harbor Freight.

I have some of their sockets and extensions and they are easily of the same quality my craftsman stuff is. For the price they are worth every penny and have a lifetime warranty. You will get 6x the tools for the same cost as a big name and most likely will not break them by the time your family members steal them all again.

Another idea is tell family to give Sears gift cards instead of socks and underwear for Christmas gifts. I do this and save them up and go on a big tool shopping spree.

i usually can but when its late and i'm tired i'd rather just grab what i need off my socket holder with the guessing. and besides after a few brews the 8mm n 9mm start to look the same. (yes i know mopar is SAE but i work in motorcycles as well)

Funny:
I just purchased this sign from the "Busted Knuckle Garage"

Its hangin over the Shelby and Superbee...for EVERYONE to see.

Why? because I let my "BUDS" borrow stuff and it never comes back!

TRUE STORY!

learned years ago don`t lend anything out esp. tools and equip.

About two years ago I started locking my tool box at work even if I was only gone for a few...I got tired of finding my tools on the shop floor. Also told them if you don't have tools to do the job don't bother coming to work. It amazing ...I still have my tools now and I'm still a d$ck about it.

I should have learned but i still lend some out, last time it took me almost two months to get my code reader back, Ill still let them use it hear, but tools cost to much and when i need them i hate having to look them up!

Most new tools are junk now. Even the high end stuff is sometimes made in China.

I'd suggest finding a used tool place, even a pawn shop, or Craigslist.

You might just find a nice set already made up in a tool box.

I've almost stopped buying new tools altogether. I feel good used will outlast most new today.

I buy used tools Snap on mostly and just took for ever to aquire. I dont like anything from Harbor Freight except their tool boxes. Sears was good but now its not the same.

I bought all of my sockets and wrenches at a big fleamarket near me. Spent $125 for every socket, extension and wrench i could ever use. All american made and all Craftsman, Proto or S-K. (Already had the ratchets). Sure, they're not a matching set, but if anything, it helps me identify them better.

Auctions are a great place to get tools but if you just want to get them and be done I'll say

Option 2

and

Option 2

try ebay as well, picked up some real good deals on snap-on ratchets on there and craftsman sockets... seems to be the best combo and least expensive way to go.. tool boxes I got from Sears on sale.. you have to get the roller bearings ones

I still have my basic Craftsman 3/8 dr and 1/2 dr, socket, ratchet and wrench set I got for Christmas when I was 15. That set has a lot of Mopar wrenching on them and still looks great.
