68RR you'll love it, especially once you get used to it and get it down, you'll see how splitting the other gears makes it all the better.
My 69 RR is a 4 speed but I am looking into getting the GV OD. I plan on some long distance touring and even with 3.23 rear am still turning near 3000 RPM at 70 - 75 MPH and getting around 12 MPG. I'm not looking to lite up the tires and I do not like cruising at 3000 RPM for hours on end and better mileage wouldn't hurt a thing. The 3.23 ratio works well for my driving around town. I get my satisfaction in miles between fillups and don't worry about recovering the cost of the OD unit. I'll recover that cost in pleasurable cruising.
Yes............I am old.
Hey, Tallhair.
I was wondering about how much time we save going ten MPH faster on trips until I found this:
"I tried an experment with my 2004 Dodge Dakota 4X4 crew cab a few weeks ago... On a trip I made, I drove 100 miles at 65 MPH, then filled up the tank and drove another 100 miles at 75 MPH. At 65 I was getting 16 miles to the gallon. At 75 I was getting just over 14 MPG. I'm not a math whiz, and maybe I've got some of this wrong, but it convinced me to slow down a bit on the highway.
Here's the numbers...
100 Miles @ 65 MPH = 1.5 hours
100 miles @ 75 MPH = 1.3 hours
Time lost at lower speed = .2 hours (12 minutes)
100 miles @ 16 MPG = 6.25 gallons
100 miles @ 14 MPG = 7.14 gallons
Fuel saved at lower speed = .89 gallons
Money saved = $2.67 per 100 miles (gasoline at $3.00 per gallon)"

Nice one mechanic and this comment does not pertain to cost savings on gasoline however it can pertain to tickets and accidents. I've always told my children and my wife, since I taught her to drive, if you drive within the speed limit on short trips on regular roads, or longer trips on highways or interstates you will get there only shortly after or the same time (based on stop lights, accidents, congestion, etc etc) as the speedy speed demon trying to pass everyone on the road. This is true in town as well as the interstate as i regularly see the same drivers on a long trip over and over again who speed past me then get caught up in traffic or lights or whatever later down the road.
Much less costly and much safer in time, money for gas, tickets, accidents, car repairs and car insurance in the short and long run.
I love to drive a powerful car and love the exhilaration of speed but in controlled situations and in certain circumstances.
Carry on![]()
Thats so untrue, I have been SPEEDING since 17, have 0 accidents, i still drive the same today.
People not paying attention and NOT driving have accidents, you gave your kids terrible advice.
You should tell your kids to DRIVE and not operate or mind a steering wheel. The problem are people just get a license and mind a steering wheel and have no clue how to drive.
Would you throw your kid on the line of the NY jets offense, but you throw them in a car, it's the same damn thing, not everyone can be on that line, not everyone belongs in a car.
.
No wonder no one likes you
Well atleast i don't put my kids in a dangerous situation using poor advice, funny how every accident i see is from no attention and not speed, or lack of actual DRIVING...... but become the road hazard/obstacle.
I could care less about being liked.. Im not here to be liked, only to give factual, correct info for people with problems that aren't getting the right answers.
As done even here, truth sucks to hear, but alas its true, not everyone should be driving, and or atleast be heavily schooled on it.

Is putting in a Keisler 6-speed manual out of the question?
I thought a bolt-in kit for their system was around $3,000-$4,000.
vI have no idea why you are going off on this rant other than that's the type of opinionated half-cocked person you are but my comment was about one aspect of driving and was a specific pointed response to something themechanic said that I quoted in my response.
I didn't say I taught my wife or children "THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS IN OPERATING A MOTOR VEHICLE IS DRIVING THE EXACT SPEED LIMIT AT ALL COST AND ALL THE TIME" but that's what you seem to be assuming.
You WILL get there at almost the same time if not faster by driving Reasonably (w/o ticket or accident) by going the speed limit or as HYDROGOON points out going with the flow versus being a speed demon. I didn't mean for it to turn into a debate so I didn't get into the finer points on my initial comment
You will almost certainly have less or no tickets by the practice I advocate and most sensible people follow or at least acknowledge that to be true over the long term
You will have lower insurance rates than if you drive more than a little faster than the speed limit or the flow of traffic, especially if your drive like you post on here supershafts .. like an arrogant and opinionated know it all who has the balls to tell someone what you did with the smallest scrap information from quick post on the internet
Geesh
regarding the truth .. from you .. there is no 'truth to hear' because you know almost nothing about me and have no idea what all I have told anyone I've taught to drive or anything else in this situation so you have no truth for me to hear.
btw
You can't handle the truth!! I would rather you just said "thank you", and went on your way. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think or the crap you are spewing. Col. Nathan R. Jessup
