Can this be seen well enough with the paint to figure a date code?
Doesn't seem to make sense to me.
Thanks.

I can't say for sure I'm correct, but that 5 X 02 might mean 1965. I have a bunch of early 4 spd parts and I noticed on some side covers they had a similar number. The tail shaft housing had a pretty clear date of 65 so I assumed the 5 might mean 65. What is the intake? (didn't bother looking up the number).

.
I knew it what is was from this link. Made during 68 or 69 for sure.

I'm not seeing a date code on the link below.
Does that mean the manifolds don't have one?
I'm baffled by the numbers.
I tried to look at the first character with a magnifying glass and still can't tell if it is a "5", "3" or an "S".
But the bottom is open and to the left like one of those characters.

It's amazing what you find when you Google something!

383 4bbl. 1968 to 1969[/QUOTE]

Got cha. You want to know the exact year. Casting numbers are hard to decipher. Engine blocks might have a "clock" with the month and day. Heads have different reference numbers and these manifolds too. Mainly for the manufacture to keep track of batches that were casted on particular days. I have a inline, two 4bll manifold for my '62 413 and all the numbers are the same for several yrs. There's the same type of smaller pads like your "3-22" and "5x02" that were for keeping track of batches. "3-22" could be March, 22nd day. Very hard to pinpoint unless you would have the factory records. Some of these records are known but not many. My manifold that I'm going to use has the month, day and yr. One year earlier than what I wanted but it's between the carbs so no-one is going to see it. I'm not entering it in a "concourse" competition either. I'll keep you in mind if I see any info on yours...

I have two.
One actually is dated 11-8-68 and this one.
My car was built in spring of 69 so I'm trying to figure which one I should keep.

component parts usually are produced about 4 to 8 weeks before assembly. Early production can see wider variance, as they stockpile parts for initial runs. Later in the year, I have noticed tighter, ie closer parts dates.

Where are those numbers located? 11-8-68
They are right below the casting number.
Had a brain fart. It's 11-14-68,
And my car is 603, June 3.
So maybe neither one is ideal.
But which one is best?
I'll try and get a good picture. Needs blasting.
