i'm finally going to do it, new engine for my '65 coronet. taking the 6-pak engine out and doing something different. i'll keep the old block and crank but will add new pistons, rods, heads and intake. it's a couple of months out before things really start coming together. 100_0326.jpg100_0329.jpg

Looks like a pair of Eddies in you pic.
yes they are with a ch28 and they're going on the new engine. i got all the brackets, fuel lines, and kickdown linkage fabbed so i need to get some use out of them. they've laying around too long.

Thanks for the reply, keep in touch with the rebuild...
currently the build will be a .030" over 440 with icon 836 pistons, 440 source h-beam rods, edelbrock 84cc heads, steel crank, edelbrock ch28 with twin 600's. cam might be an engle k65 or comp cams 282 magnum solid not sure; maybe a hydraulic if i find something i like. full tti exhaust and must use pump gas.

Lew,what is air cleaner stud spacing on the CH28 ? Was thinking of changing my factory cast iron to a CH28 but not sure if I will be able to use my original air cleaners and I don't want to change them.
Thanks

should be the standard edelbrock 6 7/16". i think its a little close for your oval air cleaners. i really like those ovals and wish i could do that but pretty certain it won't work. there were some ovals that had a "flat" on one side but not sure if that would work. i don't like the little edelbrock but for now it'll have to do.

Lew,these are off a 62 300H,they have the flat's with a bumper in between,I'll measure but I think you are right about them being too close.

AS much as that manifold gets a bad rap we have one that runs decent. Ported 906, MP .557 solid, 2 600 Eddys. In a 65 Belvedere with 4.56 it runs steady 11.50@115. A performer RPM would be quicker but does n't look as cool.

i've seen guys run in the ten's with that intake. i've never heard anybody who had one on the street complain about tuning issues or power. for what i intend to do i doubt a big single 4bbl on a performer rpm is a big power adder. driving on the smaller primary barrels should have an advantage on the street.

the carb flanges on the edelbrock intake butt up to each other. the carbs are probably 1/2"-3/4" closer together on the edelbrock intake. i think the dual plane intake would give you a little more torque, but as nice as your set-up is i don't know if i'd touch it. i originally wanted to build a 385hp-413 type clone engine, with some modern pieces, for a '62 dart but i don't think thats ever going to happen.

Bill, I'm using a CH28 on my convertible with the "football" style air cleaners. They are tight but they fit.

Good luck with your rebuild Lew, real glad to see another dual quad being built! Please do keep us updated!

Hey Rick, I was considering a CH-28 when I rebuilt mine, but I thought bonnet clearance could be an issue. Maybe not?! Are they Eddy carbs? If so, did you need to make new filter bases?

My intake is a CH28. Bonnet clearance isn't an issue. My carburetors are actually Carters, but they are the same as the Edelbrocks. I bought the reproduction air cleaners through the Chrysler 300 club. I had them chromed locally. I did have to modify the bases as the opening in the carburetors is larger than the opening in the air cleaner bases.

Thanks for the update Rick! PS - I Love your cars!

Do the Edelbrock's push the headers outward towards the torsion bars more than the OEM iron heads?

the edelbrock literature states that the exhast ports/flange are extended 1/8" outward. thats why i wanted to mock the 2" tti's up to see how the fit was. appears that everything fits great. i had welded up the h-pipe and collecter hook-ups previously so i feared nothing would fit. to my surprise everything fits up to the existing exhaust. no torsion bar issues. usually nothing new from the aftermarket fits or works according to the vendor's claims.
