As my intro post says I am new to Mopar and the happy owner of a 66 Cornet 440 as of last week. Winter keeps dragging on here in Ontario Canada so at this point all I can do is go to my garage and sit in my new baby dreaming of the nice weather ahead.
I started looking for a car a few months ago as our two kids have moved out and we have some time and a little extra cash on hand....it is amazing how much our grocery bill has gone down! I knew I did not have the time, space or expertise to pull off a major restoration so I started the quest to find a nice driver. I finally found "my" car but the previous owner knew virtually nothing about it and while I loved the car I was disappointed not to know a little of the history. As I was sitting in the car last night I opened the ashtray and found an old Michigan Registration. I grabbed it and started my Google searches. Eventually Google coughed up a phone number matching the name and address in Livonia Michigan so I gave them a call. Got an answering machine and left a message hoping to get a response. That night I got the phone call I had been hoping for ( thank you Clint and Christine )!
Apparently Clint bought the car from Van Nuys California in 1993 and had it shipped to Michigan. It was rust free but the paint, carpet and interior were in nasty shape. Not sure yet when he started but Clint painstakingly began a resto and was kind enough to send me some pictures. Clint says he and his buddy stripped the car and fixed the dings and dents, installed a new Legendary interior, carpet, 3.91 gears in the 8 3/4 rear end and installed a 67 440HP engine and tranny from a 67 GTX and then applied the correct factory yellow paint. 14 years later the paint is still as smooth as my wife's *** was when we first got married!
Clint has a ton of pictures and some original documentation including the Certicard that he is sending to me. It was obvious from our phone conversation that he loved the car and the attention to detail of his resto is obvious. Unfortunately the previous owner "got at" the car and removed most of the original emblems and got under the hood and into the engine bay and the grill with a flat black rattle can. Over the next few weeks I will be working at correcting this. Clint now has a 1971 Duster and Christine has a Challenger. I forgot to ask but they may even be members on this site.
Here are a number of pics that they sent me last night. Thanks again Clint and Christine for sharing your experiences with me and I will be checking my mailbox with anticipation! Some of you Michigan guys may even know Clint and Christine so if you see them give them a great big kiss from me!!
