Shitty paint and wrong color a 70 Color at that. I would hold out or save more money for a nicer car.

It is less money then I would want for mine which is still dissassembled. The paint is probably the one thing that will cost the most out of everything. Shortening a driveshaft is no big deal. Check title against vin and check the body closely. Otherwise, I would have no problem buying it at that price.

not sure if you should talk to him yet give me his phone number and let me talk to him :edgy: for you right now I have a lot of ?

That's seems like good price for a solid running '69 Superbee, especially if the body isn't rusty or full of mud. Looks like Ontario plates....I'd take a real good hard look at the underneath as well as in the wheel wells. Bring a magnet. Good luck

You know man I look at it this way: If it is really a dream car for you, then you are going to spend literally countless man hours on it and with it. You'll also spend another $20,000 or more over its lifetime or yours. You'll want everything to be perfect. If you're like me, you'll enjoy putting in beautiful ARP bolts much more than cad-plated hardware store ones. That's an expensive proposition. So, five years from now if the car you paid $13,000 for and spent $30,000 on in total was really only worth $10,000, will it matter? If it was really worth $17,000 will it matter?

I'm in this category. I can't remember how much exactly I paid for the car, but I KNOW I paid more for my new motor!

OR:

How bout this technique: If you're 25 and have a wife and young child and want to drive the car around with them, maybe it's too much for a car that needs a lot of work and you won't drive for a year. If you're 45 and WANT to do a lot of work because it's your hobby and your dream car, see first paragraph...

Does it matter that it's a real Super Bee? To me, yes. Make sure the VIN plate is right for a 70 Super Bee. Check it against the front crossmember.
Does it matter that the engine is not original: To me, no. It's a period correct engine that COULD have come in the car. Make sure it works.
5 Speed? Heck yeah! It's not a matching numbers car anyway, and you can't beat a clutch and an overdrive. It costs $5,000+ to do that swap.

There's one exception to all of this in my book: No car... (with the possible exception of the one factory original 1970 purple hemi Daytona which was driven by Richard Petty as he and a young Dale Earnhardt drove to his son's wedding at Daytona Speedway on New Years Eve, the same car which was featured in the first issue of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition)... But other than that, no car is worth MY time if it is so rusted that every part has to be swapped out. Rust is just miserable and unless you have a lot of skill, you're just going to pay someone else to deal with it, which isn't any fun. Like Prop said, bring a magnet, and maybe a floor jack to get underneath and REALLY look at the bottom of the car. The question is not whether the car is too expensive (it's not). The question is whether the project is going to be fun, or a disaster at every turn. Worry more about what you're getting than how much you're paying for it.

PS: Can I have the extra T5?...

Better look for a '90 or newer T5, the one from '85-89 was rated for 250 lb/ft of torque.

I talked to him on the phone, he has an ad on Kijiji Ontario. He told me the car is firm at $18,000...also the tranny is slipping in 2 and 3rd.

If it is in Ontario maybe you could reach out to one of the Canuck's here to go have a look at it... Try and narrow down what part of the province it's in.

wait a minute..... in the opening post he says it's 2 hours away from him in New Orleans... Ontario plates... kijiji ad in Ontario..... this sounds a bit suspect no??

13K,U.S. dollars?........if you are not interested I am.:eusa_doh:

too many reasons to type here...:icon_rolleyes:

yes, try for less cash if not buy it anyway.:3gears:

bring a magnet

Its suspect…too many inconsistentcies w/ his story….
he won't even take it for a test drive…. I said if I'm driving 2 hrs w/ cash in my hand , then We are taking the car for a ride…I will be in the passenger seat…
He said no…and gave me some excuses (no insurance, salt). I then said, well would you buy a car with out at least riding in the car?

Glad i didn't waste the 2 hr drive.

he started at $18k…but has since dropped..

I'm from new orleans, but I'm up in the toronto area for work.

He is in Belleville Ontario. The thing I have a problem with is, he said it had a complete rotiserie resto 7 years ago, if so why so cheap for a real Bee?
Al

I think if you took it for that test drive, you would know pretty much why it is so cheap. My guess would be the cobbled manual transmission setup. Maybe it vibrates really bad or something. Then you take into account the lousy paint... what would you really be buying besides a project that needs to be done from one end to the other.

Shitty paint, sounds like a ford tranny, and rear end.Hard telling what else is wrong with it.That is why I said hold out for another car.

If it's too good to be true......................

....dude, the hood in a N96 option, I'd score it for sure. Check the tag

I wouldn't count on that T5 to hold very long behind a big block i would look to make sure the clutch cable was done right too .

Get right underneath it with a metal chipping hammer / screwdriver and check out all the frame rails good, you may find rot. Lift the carpet and check the trunk out good. Along with the magnet to assess the body. I'd wave 10K US in his face and tell him no test drive that's my offer, you can use this as a bargaining chip to your advantage. Install a Dodge tranny later that can hold up to the power. If its a real Bee its worth this money in this condition.
