Hello all, just dropping a line to say hello. Been lurking around here every once in a while and decided to finally join. I've had my 1966 Dodge Coronet 500 (383) since early 2004. Bought it from a family friend who had been working on it off and on for several years. He threw some hooker headers on there, an edlebrock carb and intake, mallory ignition system and had the transmission rebuilt. It sat like that for a few years before he decided to sell. I bought it, got it home and put some air shocks on the back because the fenders were ridding on the tires (thanks to the big ole Crager wheels). Then I went ahead and let it sit like that for 10 years. College got in the way, then got busy with a new wife (pun totally intended), then employment ups and downs hit. Oh, and I didn't have a garage to work in, so all my work on the car was done outside in the dirt (poor planning on my part buying a car without having a garage to store it in). But now here we are in 2014, I've got a solid job and my dad built a shop at his place and kept some space for my car in it. Finally got to working on it again yesterday. Tried to fire it up, but wouldn't go. I figured bad gas. Dropped the gas tank, and sure enough bad gas. Stunk to high heaven and was the color of orange crush. Dumped the gas and pulled out the sending unit. The little sock/filter guy on the end was gone. Disintegrated into little pieces inside the gas tank. Which will brings me to the end of my ridiculously long winded intro. I'm going to get a new sending unit for sure, but would you guys also recommend a new gas tank, or just clean out the old one? Doesn't appear to have any leaks, was just full of bad gas.
Ok, how about some pictures after all of that nonsense?
My project-1966 Dodge Coronet
While we're posting pictures, here is my dad's project, 1958 Dodge Coronet
And our joint project, a 1965 Dodge Coronet (yeah, we have a things for Coronets). We'll probably just get this one running and sell it.
Looking forward to learning a lot from you guys.
