Interior Sound Insulation

Just wanted to get some opinions on what product everyone is using, if any, to insulate floors, doors, and roof with? I know Dynamat is widely used but pretty expensive is there alternatives that do the job just as good?

My neighbor just did his dodge truck with something he got at home depot. Its hvac duct insulation I think. He had a big role of it for like 17 bucks. Looks just like Dynomat too. He has an 04 ram 2500 and said the road noise was horrible. Said the stuff he put in worked like a dream. I dont remember the exact name of it but can find out. Hit up wedge69, he just got a job a lowes. Im sure they have the same stuff as home depot. He might be able to check on it.

I used some stuff called fatmat, its just like dyna mat but cheaper. I also used aircraft insulation I got from aircraftspruce.com.

I used the duct insulation that Hemi Rebel mentioned. I found it searching for alternatives and ODZKing used it in his 67 Charger. I asked him if it worked and he said he was happy with it. So i figured I'd give it a try and I put it in my 66 Charger. I'm still in the process of re-doing the interior so I cant give you my opinion on it. But 60 sq ft (4 rolls) was about 80 bucks. Compare that to about 130 bucks for 30 sq ft of dynamat. There are other alternatives to dynamat. But most of them are just roof tar with some foil. At least that is the impression i got. plus most of them smell really bad. while i think dynamat is the best, just my opinion as I have it used before. the duct insulation seems like it will fill the bill at a good price.

What ever you use make sure it has a good buytle backing and use nothing from home depot or lowes! That stuff is made from tar and will melt in the heat not to mention the smell. I used knownoise its cheaper than dynomat but better in every way.

I use the Rattle trap (made by fatmax). Easy to cut/install, works great. About half the cost of Dynamat, and it is thicker at .080 vs Dynamat @ .067

It is as much about the job you do installing. Prop wash did a nice job there. I used a hardware store knock-off too. It can be too thick making reinstall of belts etc difficult. Do the ceiling if the headliner is out. A must.

the stuff i linked has no tar in it. i also made mention of cheaper dynamat alternatives that use tar. Fatmat being one of them. At least possibly early versions of FatMat. just google fatmat smell. the frost king stuff is insulation and has sound deadening qualities. it's a good cheap alternative to dynamat. if you can afford dynamat i'd go with them as it's the best. if not just google dynamat alternatives.

ohhh ohhh me me......

I know this wont be popular but it worked really well and was easy to do. bought a 100 sq ft only cost me $40 at HD Thinking it was this stuff. 3 in 1 heat reflector, sound deadening, moisture control. I will say this, everyone who knows my car before and after now says holy **** we can talk to each other now! Way more quite.

P/S No messy butly crap no rollers all you need is a razor knife and I used the 3m upholstery adhesive from autozone spray can.

The stuff from aircraft spruce I used pretty much everywhere...Roof, undercowl, under carpet, package tray, trunk divider. It's not horribly thick but does need adequate space from any future bolts like the seat belts (those were a pain). I've got some extra is you want me to send you a small square in an envelope that way you can see what it is like in person.

The fatmat stuff I used where ever it sounded "tinny" I'd knock on the floor pan and install squares until it didn't sound that way anymore. Pretty much covered the entire transmission tunnel, firewall, roof, and wheel housings (not the part you can see in the trunk).

I didnt use anything but call me weird,I love my car being noisy and obnoxious. Its not a pleasure cruiser though. Its a dare you street beast. 1800 watts drown out crap I dont want to hear, I keep telling myself this cause I dont want to pull all my interior. Sound deadening was an afterthought.

After trying to work out what will be best for me, I have gone with STP Black Gold. StP Black Gold is made ​​from 2.2mm thick butyl rubber sound dampening materials, with a really tight adhesive surface and a water and oil resistant black aluminum coating.

Cost? I have a decibel meter app for my smart phone I going to take readings and post them back would be interesting to see with 3" dronemasters and the 3" Jones glass packs / resonators out back.
