Seems to be the ongoing trend lately....

Absolutely when you ask a question, please give as much information about your car, project relevance, like year, make , model, combo engine, trans, rear, parts being used, your knowledge base or what ever, so we don't have to always ask "what are you capable of doing, skill wise/knowledge wise/tools wise" or the simplest of questions "what the Heck is it" or "what is the intended final usage/goal/expectations" or even "what kind of budget", it seems is relevant today too etc... Ok I'm done

Great stuff. (Wonder if any of those who 'should' read this thread, are??)

Learned all my stuff the hard way. Also learned real quick, that even with a good handbook, with plenty of info in it, nothing talks like experiance. Manuals are written just as a guide...not all the answers.

Still believe no such thing as a dumb question. If you don't know, you don't know. Some just don't have the ability, as others. I used to ask what the hell is your problem? You've got two hands, and two feet...just like me! Then, I lost an eye.

first, this is a good thread.....
second, I am one of the guilty ones...I talk cars with friends,(for hours) , love to "diagnose"
& "putter" have dusty manuals BUT still ask the experts---->you guys.<--
I don't apologize for being a dumb *** when it comes to some of my ride's problems.
I do enjoy this site, I am not as gifted when it comes to wrenching my car.
I have been toying with cars for 45 + years ...I can give my opinion BUT many times need a 2nd
one.
THIS IS A VERY GOOD site, especially for a less gifted amateur mechanic.
:icon_silent: like me

All these replies are the reason why you should, read, read, and read some more. Then go do some more reading! Then you go grab a wrench and get your hands dirty. Ask questions if you have a problem or if something doesn't seem right, not the other way around. JMHO

Great site, Great thread, Great advise, Great people and there is a great SEARCH engine here that with my FSM/FPM and my computer, I can solve 99% of my problems. The Q's I ask are the ones I can't find any answers to. Like, who knew that the staple on the rubber hold down part of the steering column upper bearing acted as the ground for the column? Eight words in the FSM and I read it a zillllllion times. who knew......
I agree though, one needs to know something about mechanics, electrical and before tackling these beasts welding and such. Now I am done...

Ma Mopar was wise but maybe a bit spiteful from time to time.

In my part of the world the most lacking skill is the ability to read and write. The next is to conduct an educated conversation, since most everybody young is walking around texting. God forbid that the would have to conduct a conversation in person! many can't read or understand a manual, so they just ask. I'm Sorry if this sounds harsh, but I sell real estate and deal with the legal end. This indictment isn't restricted to the poorly educated. I have had Engineers and Lawyers unable to comprehend a contract, or sign their name. A problem since Cursive is neglected in today's schools. I believe the above post is directly related to this problem.

I think some comments here are going to make some people uncomfortable to even ask a question for fear of being flamed for not searching all over till they get the answer they need themselves, does everyone have to justify a post now with "I've searched but couldn't find..." seems to happen after one of these type of threads, I'll go back to saying, no one makes anyone answer, and it takes more wasted time to answer with RTFM then it does to say nothing, here's my take on any forum, it's like having a friend around, if I'm working on a car, or hell, just drinking a beer and shooting the ****, I might think of something I'm curious about or know I will need the answer when I get to it, I might ask that friend, am I supposed to police myself to only ask him the question I can't find the answer to myself first, I joined the forum to be part of a community, a big friend if you will, if I was wrong in that thinking, I might need to un-join. I may even ask a stupid question from time to time, I may even incorrectly offer advice, I'm not all knowing, and no matter how old I get, I'll always learn something, from old and young alike.

Wow we have some grouchy old men on here!

It's a forum, that's what people do, ask questions. Some are good, some not so good. If you don't want to help then don't, no one is forcing you too.

I think that the issue is not so much asking questions, it's more along the lines of joining the forum and asking a lame question, and then disapearing from the forum.

like my post said.....if I need directions I ask...I am not too proud to ask.
every one here including me, would like to share.....I think..
:icon_question:
I do not repair cars for a living, but I think people that do---> always ask if there is a problem...
or they should...
again, this is a excellent resource for us MOPAR B body enthusiasts.
