1970 Roadrunner. I would like to find a solution or replacement options for my stock shoulder strap. I have the bench seat (which is correct for my fender tag decode) although one day I would like to change to buckets and a console. In the mean time, I can't wear the shoulder strap because it goes right across my neck, not barely, but badly!!
I am 6'3" 260 lbs. What replacement options do I have for seat/shoulder straps, preferably ones that may use the stock mounting locations-but I am open to other options. I would like to move on this asap. Thanks.

Well, no replies. :( Here is my plan: I spoke to Mike at Seatbelt planet, and I am going to add a retractable shoulder strap by mounting it to the floor, and then use an extender mounted to the stock shoulder strap bolt location which has a tight oval loop at the end which will become my new LOWER than stock "pivot point" for the shoulder strap, effectively lowering it which should solve the problem. I still invite feedback please. :)

I think replacing them with belts with the shoulder loop extension is your best bet. I can't guarantee that will work, but it does bring the pivot point for the belt further forward and lower too. I have these same belts for my 1970 Road Runner, but they have yet to be installed since it I undergoing restoration.
I have also been looking for a way to install the retractors in a more hidden location, i.e. between the quarter panel and the interior trim panel. I haven't worked out if that will work yet, as I need to get the car back from the body shop to begin messing with that kind of stuff...

Good luck,

Hawk

I would move the mount to the ideal location and use a body plug like the kind newer cars use to attach a trunk carpet... to cover the original hole. You want to be safe in the advent of a crash I like the above idea also. On my 67 I have only lap belts and have a bench I'm 6'2" and 240 I got a set of '68 3point belts and will mount an attachment where it works for me and I have a 3point attachment kit for a rustang for the hard where but I also am quite far away from installation.

XV Motorsports ( now defunct) sold a three point that I have in the 69 Coronet. Retractor is a little weak but better than the orginal for ease of use.

20140710_084704.jpgYea! Thanks for the replies :) I am very visually oriented in my thought process, and I can see the proposal I put forward working. The only notable concern I have is where I am going to mount the retractor, but I think I have room right behind stock one (see pic) NOTE: all of this will likely change when I go with bucket seats and a console (not original to my car, but way better looking and more comfortable from a performance standpoint, they "hold" you better)

25 years ago I put buckets in froman 89 fwd Daytona in a wrecking yard. They are still in adn starting to wear. The retractor is forced back due to the proximity of hardware from the seat. That is why is needs a little help when stowing. When time to do it again, I wil go the way of Mr. Angry and get seats wtih the pass through straps that you put on like suspenders.

These guys sell 3 point seat belts for Roadrunners.

My buddy bought a set for his 67 Chevelle and is real happy with them. $300 for both front seats. Not cheap, but if you want to be safe and comfortable, it's a good option.
I have to talk to the guy again at seat belt planet because what was pictured at Morris Classic concepts is more like what I have in mind. In other words, ONE retractable belt that covers both lap and shoulder, and the extension from the stock shoulder strap location which will place the shoulder strap properly. Thanks
