Don't get me wrong, I respect the badge however the way I was treated the other day realllly bothered me.

It had been raining all day, windows were fogged, heavy down pour, I hydro planed around an embankment, brakes locked up and I lost it. Ended up putting the car into a tree. The funny thing is there was not a single scratch, dent, or ding on my Charger (1973).

Being a 16 year old kid with a pretty quick muscle car always seems to bother people. I get **** all the time. But my car is my passion, while everyone else my age spends their money on drugs, I spend mine on my car. It's worth more to me then any resell value.

Anyways, back onto the topic, the daycare across the street called the police (even though I was fine, had tow truck coming to pull it out).

Officer showed up, asked who owned the car, then came up to me and said, "Let me guess, you were doing stupid ****?" I was just dumbfounded, the man didn't even ask me if I was alright?

Luckily before I freaked out, my dad stopped me and told the officer "Don't give the kid a hard time, he's already hurting enough."

Officer said, "Sir, I'm just doing my job"

The best part was after he issued me a citation for too fast for conditions (my first ticket in the 3 years i've had my car). He goes on to tell me that his 2013 charger with 5.7 Hemi handles the exact same way my 1973 charger does. We all laughed and my dad goes, buddy I've driven that car (points at the cruiser) and that car (points at my car) and says I don't really think you can compare the two. One goes where you tell and the other thinks about it.

He said some other bs and finally left.

Like I said before I respect the badge, and don't have a problem with what they do, but the way they handle things.

Fight the ticket.... if the officer didn't see it... it didn't happen. Assuming this or that... maybe you were trying to run over some kids at the daycare throwing rocks and should go to jail... Or maybe to avoid a kid chasing a ball you're a hero.... Fight the ticket...

Then after the ticket gets dismissed for lack of evidence or the cop doesn't show do a nice Smokey burn out while leaving the court house...

Respect is earned. If he does not earn it, his badge does not mean ****. Well maybe a place to lay down the cross hairs. :)

I personally would fight the ticket due to the cops 'tude (which i've done before and prevailed). However while you may not get out of the ticket completely they usually will lower the cost of the ticket at the very least.

I've noticed that the cops around here and in Maryland will target the youth. When my son first started driving, he would get stopped almost every time he went into town. Talking with his friends that hung around the house, the same thing was happening to them. Mainly they got pulled over for some dumb excuse, just to search their car. I explained to them about their rights on search and seizures. Now days the cops have all kinds of ways around that. No wonder the youth don't have any respect for them!

You stated you are 16. When did you start driving?

Glad you or anyone else wasn't injured...

Well seeing how you put this out for the world to see it I say pay they ticket and move on. You were going to fast for conditions so why waste the tax payers money going to court over it?

True story.... I get stoped by the fatso donut hole in my home town... no reason 'too cautious' or something.... he comes up to my window... I have the papers ready... he says... you usually don't stop for us (town)... I say well she isn't running right today and you would have got me anyways, plus I see you back there and for you I will pull right over immediately... because your 500 pounds and a strenuous high speed pursuit and this motor with a dropped cylinder, it wouldn't look too good for me when you drop dead of a heart attack on the side of the road behind me.... his waddle shivers as he turns to process me for 3 mph over...

Sorry,
I'm confused....

You said your 16 years old with that car? (73 Charger)

So then you stated: "The best part was after he issued me a citation for too fast for conditions (my first ticket in the 3 years i've had my car)"

So, in So Carloina you've been drivindg the car since you were 13 years of age?

Im confused...

Furyous I think the alternate argument is that since the police officier didnt actually witness the event he would be the one wasting tax payers money by issuing a citation that has no merit.

Since when does a police officer have to witness the accident to write you a ticket based on the outcome?!?! That's not how it works at all!

I agree you guys are right if he fights it and this is his first offense it will likely get dropped or reduced to a lesser infraction. I make it a policy to fight every ticket I get knowing the crown always wants to make a deal rather then waste time with a trial (I just fought a red light ticket last week and got it reduced from $380 and 4 points to $130 and no points) Worth fighting even though they had me dead to rights!

The point I was making though is that the officer in this case laid the right charge... if this did go to trial all they would have to do is look at the amount of other accident reports and if it wasn't abnormally high due to the rainy weather then it would be determined that he was not driving safely as per the weather conditions. And at 16 it's easy to say some lack of experience is also partly responsible for putting your car in the rhubarb in a bit of rain.

I'd still like to hear the answer to the young man being 16 w/no tickets in the last 3 years. Can you drive at 13 in your state?

I'm interested in that response as well.

I drove around my family farm way before I was of age and on the road a few times... and let my younger brother drive on the road a few times he was 10

My daughter could drive better than her mother at 12!

Some of you guys were probily still playing with tonka toys and pushing scooters when some others were working and running equipment etc.. 13 doesn't seem too young...

The point here is not young drivers..It is being in a situation to POSSIBLY get a ticket for 3 years prior to him being 16..

Going on that logic. Before I got my drivers license at 16...I NEVER had a ticket in the previous 15 years! LOL

Google is my friend...
