Putting a new tank in my 70 BEE just want to make sure but the rubber sending unit gasket goes behind the sending unit and the tank NOT on top between the sending unit and the lock ring right? Also when the sending unit is in the tank it looks like it's not low enough in the tank but it's the same one as I took out. just seem that I would run out of gas and still have quite a bit in the tank. sending unit.jpgtank.jpg

Gee, I just did this last year....
1. Gasket, 2. sending unit and 3. lock ring....

Yep it goes rubber gasket, sending unit, lock ring. A piece of advice...install the sending unit and put a little gas in the tank and verify it does not leak before installing the tank in the car. The new stuff is a pain in the butt to get it to seal, the sending unit has to be exactly centered for it to seal correctly. Ask how I know :angryfire: Oh and use a brass punch to install the lock ring, you don't need to blow yourself up.

I can't speak about the distance from the pickup tube to the bottom of the tank but your float is what is going to tell you if you are low on gas which is above the pickup. I'd consider this "feature" a good thing so that you don't end up having to push the car to a gas station.

You might also want to test and calibrate the sending unit before installing it in the new tank. just an FYI

And I'll be really surprised if that new sending unit reads correctly.

I did meter the unit and got 70 ohms to 12 ohms from full to empty. I thought spec was 10-70 I think i can adjust the stop tab to bring it to 10 ohms.

I forgot to ask, have you hooked up the new sending unit to the wire at the tank along with a ground and manually moved the float and watched the gauge? this is the easiest way to check the ohm reading sounds right per the manual.

I just checked mine via the Ohm method and adjusted, my fuel gauge reads accurate as far as I can tell.

Reproduction Locking Ring Issues....

Just want to give you a heads up......In the last couple months I have had to replace the sending unit in two of my cars, my 72 442 and my 70 RR and in both cases the locking ring that came with the sending units would not lock tight enough.....had to use the old original ones.......they just were not made the same......

good luck
