A Pillar and Roof Skin for 71 GTX

You are 100% correct YY1. My new AMD quarters have the steps and so did the original metal that I cut out.

This thread has a good question. I have been curious about the differences since I started on my 71 RR. Thank you everyone for helping out.

I think there may be a small step on the roof skin too. I'll try to take notice next time I go out to the shop.

I'm not trying to high jack your thread Chase. Just very curious about it. I've learned a lot on this thread. Thanks again.

In the top picture of post #14 you can see the small step on the roof panel too. I remember on my car the quarter went under the roof metal skin. The step down area allows for the body filler in the seam so there are no high spots to contend with on the lead seam.

I believe the "steps" referred to in post #14 are on the quarter panel and not on the roof skin.

Actually "step" was probably not the best choice of words. I was refering to the notch in the roof skin that allows the qtr to be carried up into the drip rail area... which allows for the different qtr window shapes with the same roof.

No need to apologzie. I should be apologizing to crahill39... he started the the thread and I kinda ran with it as I have the same issue.

Wow, it's like you came and took a picture of my '72 RR.

I'm always kinda amazed at how bad my cars look in pictures.

My camera always seems to make things look worse than they appear in real life. It must be defective, I need to get me one of those cameras everybody on eBay uses. Everything always looks much better in the pics than real life :laughing1:

Appreciate all the input on this post. Moparmarks is hooking me up with a complete roof that I will be swapping out. My roof skin, A-Pillars, and a few areas of the inner bracing are toast.

Mark is a good guy. He is hooking me up with the internal support structure for the C pillar on my 72 SSB. My parts should be arriving soon.

Please take some photos and post your progress as your project comes along. I have learned a lot on this thread too and would like to send out thanks to all who helped as well.
