Started the engine to make some adjustments and coolant squirting everywhere, whoda think this?: not actually in the pump but the aluminum timing gear/inner pump housing at the top...

Wow...I've never seen anything like that before. Only think I can think would cause this is a bad case of electrolysis between the bolt and the cover. Regardless it looks like a new timing chain cover is in your future.

Late model Rams from about 95 to 2000 were having that same problem. But the cars we have are 50 years old now. At 57 I got some leaks too !!

Wow dealing with the same problem!! Just wanted to go to one last car show befor pulling my engine to put in a 440

It is cool enough out JB weld it and run with the rad cap loose so not to build pressure
Enjoy one more trip then pull it

Yes sir that's the plan !...put J.B on it last night, test drive today with a 9 lbs cap instead of the 16 lbs...keeping my fingers crossed, the show isn't till end of October so I've got some time !!

I would spend a few hours and replace the cover than limp a car around.. could cost you a lot over some hack fix just to get by... lol these jb welders must be the guys I pass on the side of the road all the time... after leaving a mile of drippings... lol

JB would save a lot of hassle, at least for now... since it's almost round wondering if I could put in a sheet metal screw along with JB so you'd have a real mechanical hold along with some sealing once it hardens.. worth a try?

firedome make sure you clean it really good, i used brake cleaner then wire brushed it so it has something to hold on to, sand paper would probably be better ...seems to hold just fine, i used the putty mix

The cover is rotten, deal with it or replace the motor now and save some hassles. Have seen several small block timing chain covers that are destroyed by lack of anti-freeze for several years. Have gotten a free car with a bad engine that was traced to a bad timing chain cover leaking into the oil. They thought the heads were cracked, water destroyed the engine bearings.

When that timing chain cover starts to leak and let's water enter, your oil will look like Chocolate Milk....ask me how I know ! Time to replace it NOW before anything else goes amuck.
