My 1967 Belvedere Convertible Plans and Restoration (aka - Mad Scientist Build)

My absolute favorite part about this (on top of how awesome those seats are going to look in their finished) Is the amount of work you were willing to take on just on a whim when the idea hit you to piece together the Challenger floor into your car. I get this when most people have it set out as their plan but I love how you just went to a wrecker and came back with half a car, an idea and the fortitude to just go at it!

Huge inspiration man!

He's just a gluten for punishment haha, I've gotten to know Larry and one thing he's not is lazy or short on ambition! Oh yeah and on size.

Hey Larry,

Happy holidays my friend; the Belve is looking awesome!

One thing about your Challenger seats; make sure you check your seated height in them (with the roof up). After having put the CTS-V seats in my Fury it appears late model seats place your butt higher in the car than our old-school seats. May not be an issue at all in your case but wanted to give you a heads-up just in case.

Take care,

Bob

Cant say anything about size except maybe his heart doing all this but the ambition and non-lazy like That i can agree on and especially if he's that big... No offense there Khan, but with my way,, now-ah-days i speak lightly my friend :)

Ok Goon . . . now I'm blushing . . . it was ONLY a 1/4 of a car at most . . . ( grin ) . . .

The wrestling with the fabrication continues . . . it's been interesting, to say the least . . .

Lol...cutting up a 1/4 of a car just so you can mount a set of new seats in a car is ambition to say the least. But it looks damn good in there. One question though, have you set the interior panels in place to see where/if you have any gaps that will need some sort of filler panels?

Thanks Bob - Merry Belated Christmas to you and Happy New Year too !

As 747 Mopar said I'm big . . . I'm 6'4" tall, so I will be everything possible to get the seats down as law as I can get them so I'm not hitting my head on the convertible top . . . however . . . my plan is NOT to have the top up on too many occasions ! I've got another 1 1/2 inches I can lower the rear seats so that I may not hinder my rear view mirror as pointed out by 747 Mopar, but I also am trying to move the seat back another 2 inches - trying to "tuck" it in between the mini-tubs as far back as possible - currently the seat is about 4-6 inches forward of the old seat location, and with me 6'4" tall, and the front seat being all the way back, I'm wondering if the rear seat will be usable at all ? ? ?

Let's see what I can do with moving this thing . . . Thanks a bunch for the heads up !

Not yet KB67Mopar . . . as my plans are to add a custom roll bar into this car, which will more than likely make the interior panels obsolete ( I'll probably sell them ) and guess what . . . I'll probably be custom building some interior panels to fill it all in nicely . . . what's a few more challenges on this project ! !

Thanks for watching my 6 on this . . . very much appreciated !

I'd have to go back and look but I think when I but my rear seat in I made sure the foam was right on top of the driveshaft hump to gain all of the head room I could. That should make it just as low if not lower than the originals I would think.

That's my plan too 747 Mopar - to get it down as far as I can on the original floor, and also back as far as I can for back seat leg room and to make the back seat so that people might still be able to sit back there sometime . . . fitting it in between the mini-tub is proving to be a whole lotta fun . . . but I'll figure something out . . .

HAPPY NEW YEAR

To everybody at FBBO . . . may your year be happy, healthy, and safe . . . with many miles of Mopar Motoring ! ! !

A big Happy new years to you as well and congrats on your new FBBO status!!!!!

Work continues . . . and questions start to arise . . .

While working on the car this weekend, I started to get some questions ( maybe I didn't think it all the way through ) . . .

1 - The tr-6060 Challenger 6-speed has the starter on the passenger side ( not the driver ) - will I be able to find headers that will work for this configuration ?

2 - The back seat, after all my coercing, still looks like it's 5-6" further forward then the stock seats, will there be any leg room in the back seat ?

3 - Stock front Challenger seats ( being 7 way adjustable) have motors that make them sit up higher ( you're right Bob ) - will they work for me being so tall ?

Ugh . . . more work to get figured out before I can get this project completed ! !

The Stratus seats I used sit low but use a cable to connect the motors to the seat making it easy to move them around. Look and see if yours can be manipulated. As for the headers you might be able to use Challenger headers, I would bet with you doing away with the torsion bars there will be more room in your car than there was in that Challenger?

TTI makes a set of headers to fit if you got the ALTERKTION front end. mine fit and look great. alot of money thou.

Hey late merry Christmas and congrats on the new Challenger Kahn!

Can't begin to say how awesome it is to see you tackling this project with the backseat and trans tunnel, and as always I'm sure it'll come out looking top notch! I've been kicking around the back seat options for Frankenstein and I think you have me inspired to do something similar to go with my Viper buckets (since the Viper designers didn't give passenger capacity much priority lol). If you don't mind me doing so, could you by any chance get me a width measurement between the rear door panels of the Kahnvertible to see how the seat would fit in the Charger?

Sucks to hear about your issues with American Powertrain, hopefully any prospect customers see this thread and your experience first. Hope you get it all sorted out and your money back asap

Oh and I can't wait to see the front suspension setup too!! :icon_thumleft:

Hey Speedy . . . sure, I'll get you the measurements . . . and I'd like to ask you for the measurements on the Viper seats

How high do they sit off the floor at the back of the seat, and at the front of the seat ?
What is the width of the seats ?

REALLY like the looks of the Viper seats, they look to sit a lot lower than the Challenger seats . . . I'm investigating . . . I need a very LOW sitting seat for my height ! ! !

Haven't spilled the beans on the front suspension yet . . . it should be here later this month . . . then I'll share . . . ( smile )

MEASUREMENT UPDATE:
Speedy - if I got your question right - it's 60 1/4" between the doors in the Khan-vertible . . . sent you a PM - call me if you need to discuss.

Tracking down parts . . . my findings . . .

So I was running around trying to track down some parts today, and I had some good luck . . . what I found . . .

1 - my pilot bearing
2 - the part number for my 2012 clutch master cylinder
3 - the part number for my 2012 clutch hydraulic hose

Here's the pilot bearing . . . including the box and the part number

sm_pilotbearing.jpg

And while I was at the Dodge dealer getting part numbers for the clutch master and hydraulic line, I asked if there was a HellCat there . . .

Guess what . . . make sure I get a picture of the Hellcat emblem to prove it's for REAL

sm_hellcat01.jpg

Full side view of the car too . . . the owner will not have to wash the car because I cleaned it up nicely by drooling all over it . . .

sm_hellcat02.jpg

All I can say is . . . WOW . . .
