I need to replace my fuel tank and fuel tank sending unit on my '70 GTX, 440-4, with automatic transmission. Would like suggestions from members on businesses that provide excellent service to their customers. Thanks.

Get 70 only. Save all old parts. Avoid Mopar Ed in the Central Valley. Good luck.

The first thing you need to understand is if your car has the Cleaner Air System (CAS). If you do, you have a tube in the trunk on the passenger side that comes up from the trunk extension. This system uses a gas tank with four hoses that come out the passenger side.

Once you know if you need a CAS tank or not, then you can go ahead and order it. The Canadian Spectra tanks seem to be the best quality.

As far as the fuel senders, most seem to not drive the needle all the way to the full mark. Most probably need to be adjusted or modified to make them work. I suggest when you get the sender to hook it to your fuel gauge wire and group it but not have it in the tank. Move the float up and down and verify that the gauge goes through its full travel.

Finally, I remember I got my tank from Rock Auto. I was happy with them and the tank.

Good luck

I got a couple of tanks from Rock Auto and I was very pleased with the quality, the price, and reasonable shipping costs. It seems like there is a calibration problem on replacement gas tank sending units, so I install the new tank and fill it 1/2 full (typically 10 gallons of gas). I insert the sending unit to see where the gas gauge reads, then I remove the sending unit and bend the arm which ever way is needed to get the gauge to read 1/2 full. This might take a couple of attempts to get the right reading. It's not a perfect method, but it's close.
