I bought a set of upper door panels from Year One for my 72 Roadrunner thinking they were the whole thing. However, they source these from Legendary which only gives you the vinyl part and you have to attach it to your old panel. I am a little put out with Year One for not disclosing that it was not a full panel setup (it just says you need the attachement clips) but its not the end of the world if its something I can do. Has anyone ever installed these on their car? If so, do you have any tips or tricks of putting them on the panel or how to go about doing it? I am placing a call to Legendary for instructions since none we provided but I figured someone on here has gone through this ordeal as well. Any help is much appreciated. i am using the ones with the wood grain inserts.

So, they just sent you some vinyl? That's weak! Not surprised about Yearone doing that. Ever consider just sending your originals to Legendary???

I had Legendary restore my panels, and they are top notch, a bit on the expensive side, but the result was awesome and worth the cost. Legendary restoration they replace the fiber board, clean and repaint the metal part of the panel, reassemble, cover it, install the window fuzzy and door lock ferrules. The only thing they don't do is cut out the place holders for the mirror and panel clips.

Just bring them to an auto upholstery shop it's worth the $50 they might charger to swap the boards or they might put new boards under them (my shop here did that he said just sell the other set he'd fix me up with new boards and all .

They come with the backing board, not the upper metal frame. Get the instructions from Legendary. Not that hard to do them.
I talked to Legendary about redoing some for a customers 72 RR/GTX since they didn't make them and they would not do them for me. Paul you must have more pull than I do.

Interesting Mark, I thought assembly was part of their service if you sent them your old ones for restoration.

I just did the same thing. I ordered them and recieved the material and carboard only. I took to upholserty shop and had them remove the old ones and install the new. They turned out great. I had to cut out the side mirror hole on the drivers side panel and the door lock holes. Save the little old door lock chrome bezels off your old panels...you will need them!
I also installed the 2 Satellite emblem's on mine. Its a 72 SSP.

That's the only way they are sold, mine are at the upholsterer as we speak.
I bought old beat up panels off ebay to get the metal and not disturb my old panels because I'm doing a color change. You can also buy the panels and installation from Legendary had them do my old Satellite's panels.

Thanks all for the replies. Legendary will do the installation but you have to ship it to them and that plus the installation job is more than I have at the moment. It did come with the cardboard backing, just not the metal frame. I just wish year one would have advertised it as such. They just say you need clips to put it on and that's it is it. How much would be a reasonable price to have a local shop do it? I live in dallas so there has to be someone! Thanks again everyone.

I nearly did the same thing, then I realized it was material only. Thanks to the guys on here. I bought the stuff from legendary and sent the metals to have them done. It's going on 2 months. I'm a little disappointed in the progress. When I bought them, I was told they were out of the white panels for my SSP and they'd have them towards the end of January. That's when I sent them in. I realize they are quite busy this time of year, but a little communication would help. Just be prepared to wait, and be patient. Good things come to those who wait. Take care.

Here's a picture of the upper door panel.

Looks great! Now I'm really getting excited. The only thing really wrong with mine was the chrome, it was peeling like a banana on the front panels. The rears were fine. Take care
