Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone could help me figure out a couple of codes on my fender tag. I have been able to find what they all mean except for the CGWQ and C5 on the 3rd line.
Any help would be appreciated 20130508_135818.jpg

Fat fingered typing leading to miscoding?

Does the car have the center arm rest?
C21 is a valid code for a 73 RR.
Look at the relationship between WQ and 21 on a keyboard.

The extra "G" in that series pushed the C5(6) code one position to the right leading to the omission of the 6 in C56 (Bucket seats. Confirmed by the D6 interior code).

The Windsor plant did code some things differently but C21 C56 would be a valid coding sequence for the 73 Windsor plant.

thanks for your replies!

Kiwi - I believe that previous post may have been my brother at some point looking for answers. My father picked the car up back in 05, it has been sitting ever since. We are just beginning to do some work on it and I figured I would see if anyone could give me any information on it.

coronet - I do see what you are saying about the fat fingered typing. It does make sense and that is the best explanation I could come up with. However, the car does not have the center arm rest. It does seem like this was a screw up of some sort...interesting.

Does not have the arm rest now or never did have an arm rest? Any broadcast sheet?

Windsor plant did have codes that were not common to USA plants However, a code of CGWQ and the incomplete C56 code is probably not a valid code even for them. Probably just a screw up.

I would bet it has something to do with Canada, not that its because of the windsor plant but some sort of highway thing or rule back in 73.

Fender tag codes are for body in white, paint and trim.

What Canada highway reg would cause line workers to make a modification to the body?
Wouldn't one expect to see the same consistent code on similarly situated cars?

I have no idea, but researching anything related to CGWQ points back to Canada from what I could see, unless there was some special paint or trim rules in Canada at the time who knows? I'm just tossing guess's out. maybe someone who lives in the great white north has access to records form 73 or jurisdictional rules? It's been bugging a few people at least since 2005 lmao

I concur with 69Coronetrt. The only things that are supposed to be in that area of the tag are three digit option codes. This is simply a mistype - very rare - but just a simple mistake that did not get caught - or got caught somewhere down the line but was not corrected. The assembly line workers probably just referenced the buildsheet and figured out what was supposed to go on the car.

KiwiGTX - I would double check if possible whether your car really came with the center console - or if it might have come with the buddy seat and was switched to a center console set up (which would involve changing from a column shift setup to the center console slap stick). 69Coronetrt's reference to the WQ being close to 21 makes sense. Your car should have been coded either C21 C56 for buddy seat/buckets, or C16 C56 for center console/buckets.

Scott.

Not my car....it belongs to 73rr400 :icon_winkle:

Thanks for all the help!

C16 for console and C56 for buckets seems like a reasonable explanation for an error in the coding on the car. To clarify, the car is an original console slap stick with no armrest.

Hopefully the broadcast sheet can be located and this can be clarified for sure!

Thanks again

The "6" is above the "G", on a keyboard, but it's two rows away...

Hello! Is there any chance you have your broadcast sheet from under the rear seat? You might figure it out that way!
