Dear fellow forum members,

I've been trying to verify whether a 1967 Coronet that is located in the Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX area is indeed a numbers matching car. Unfortunately, I am on the East Coast and it's impossible for me to get a firsthand look, so I am reaching out to the B-Body community here for help. The sale of the car is being handled by a 3rd. party on consignment and neither they or the cars owner (supposedly?) know for sure whether this is the original drivetrain.

Obviously (before I pay for a professional inspection and appraisal) I'd like to know if the numbers all match. With that being said, are any of you located in or around that area that are willing to help me out? Please PM me here.

Thanks in advance for your help.

There are plenty on here that say that you "can't have a numbers-matching" pre-'68, and we've hashed all that nonsense out on other threads. Just keep in mind that if the castings and date stamps on various parts PRECEDE the scheduled build date, THAT is the definition of "numbers-matching" on 1967 and earlier cars. That's all there is to go by.

I just sent you a PM. However, there are no "matching numbers" on a '67 driveline. Chrysler didn't start stamping VIN numbers on engines/transmissions until into the '68 model year. The best you can do is verify the engine production/casting dates are right for the build date of the car (on the fender tag). If there's no fender tag, then it's pretty hard to tell. Contact me via the info I PM'd you, and we can talk.

Hello all! I want to thank everyone for their offers to help and guidance on the fact that cars older than '68 don't really have "matching numbers". Texas69bee was the first person to offer to take a look at the car and is scheduled to see it tomorrow. I will keep you updated as things progress. Wish me luck! :icon_wink:

With the help of two forum members (Jason and Tim) I was able to make my mind up and walk away from this R/T. Too many issues that couldn't be seen in the photos that a first hand look by Jason found for me. I cannot thank them enough for their generosity, patience (with a newbie like me) and willingness to help someone they don't even know from 1,600 miles away. Kudos to all others who responded and also offered to help. I am overwhelmed with the sense of community that I have experienced here in such a short span of time being a member.

THANK YOU!!!

FWIW, boys. You're now famous! At least on my Facebook page! LOL

I'm happy for you that it all "worked" out!

I'm in the Flight Test business and we go by the saying: "Truth in Data"
Jason and Tim were able to get you the correct info (data) needed for you to make an accurate and knowledgeable decision.

I was curious, and looked this one up on line. Wow! Just from the photos, you can tell this one is tired. Looks like a quick paint job and not much else. No way that one is worth $30K. Wrong exhaust, lots of interior work needed, the grille is finished all wrong, and I'm suspicious of the engine because the oil pan number is wrong. The engine might have been swapped, or just the pan replaced.

However, all the hard-to-find R/T trim is in place, and it appears fairly correct under the hood. All in all, it's a typical "boutique collector car" vehicle; make it shiny, and hope someone bites.

Good job getting it checked out locally before investing big coin. I'm sure those who went to look at the car found tons of negatives. The right one will come along...

Cheers!

TX67RT - There was absolutely NO WAY that I could've done this without the help from guys on the forum. As I said in my earlier post, I appreciate everyone's comments and help here on B-Bodies and will be forever grateful to Tim and Jason for their time and effort. They saved me a HUGE headache from the looks of things.

Thanks Bill for the kind words. I am glad I was able to help. My decision to do so was simple, it was based on the principle of paying it forward. There are may on this site that have helped me out with advice and opinions, it made helping another that much easier.
For those who are interested, it wasn't that difficult for me to tell Bill to walk away. The passenger side frame rail and cross member was shot and the leaf springs were starting to work there way through the trunk.

Yeah, but for only $30K....haha...
It was negotiated down quite a bit from there, but still would've been a "money pit" and one big headache for me. An unsound car is an unsound car no matter what the price. Unless you have your own shop, can fabricate parts and can do all of your own work, it may be doable - but still may not be worth it.

My 2¢
