Just bought a '71 RR that was set up as a race car early in its life. Car has no rust except the bottom inside lip of the trunk lid. The problem I have is the car has a narrowed dana under it with 31-14 X 15 racing slicks. No leaf springs, has coilover shocks. Can the existing axle tubes be extended approx. 4 " per side and new axles installed or do I need to have the tubes removed completely and new ones welded in. I think it has a spool in it so that would have to be changed also. As a last resort I was thinking about just finding a used 8 3/8 and installing leaf springs. Going to be running a 440 with about 400 hp .
 
Somebody on here wants that narrowed Dana, so I would sell it n buy a new Dana
 
Yup, much easier and cheaper to sell the Dana and install the 8 3/4. You can probably sell the 60 and more than pay for the other rear.

Problem? Sound too good to be true.
 
Looks like its about 52.5" from the flange where the brake backing plate mounts. The tires clear the frame rails by about 3/4 " on each side. I'll take some pics once I find my camera.

Pulled the cover, under one of the bolts was a tag stamped 5.13 and it has a spool. Not much good for a street car. Going to look for a 8 3/4 rearend . I could buy dot tires and a posi for it but I would have as much in it as buying a used 8 3/4 and I already have new rims and tires.
 
Going to use the 8 3/4 out of the sat that I'm working on. If anyone is interested in the dana shoot me a PM. I live in S.W. MI near South Bend IN. This will be pickup only , no shipping. I'll through in all 4 rims and tires for the right price.
