fender tag and wheel style question

If there isnt a code on my fender tag for a style of wheel, like the magnum 500 wheels, which wheels came on my roadrunner originally? Any pics of the wheels? Could the originals have still been magnum 500 14" wheels?

I "think" if you don't have a wheel option code on your VIN tag your car origionally came with the 14" magnum 500 wheels, the optional wheel was the 15"x7" rally wheels and the six-pack A12 cars came with steel wheels, no hub caps & big chrome lug nuts.

Can anyone else confirm this? Base wheel = 14" Magnum 500's?

Wheels were not coded on the fender tag of a 69 RR.

Base was the steel wheel with hub cap.
Wheel covers were optional.
The Chrome road wheel was optional.

A12 cars were only built at the Lynch Road plant and this is a STL car.

Without factory documentation (broadcast sheet, widow sticker, original invoice, etc), there is no way to know what came on the car. It is most likely the car came with steel wheels.

When I bought the car it came with a set of 14" Magnum wheels that the owner claimed he thought were original (They were in the trunk of the car wrapped in a blanket). Since I didnt see the code for the Magnum wheels on the fender tag I wasnt sure if I believed it.
Since these Magnums look really original and if wheels were not coded on the fender tag... I guess the car did come with them from the factory

One way to help determine if that could be true is to see how the date code on the wheels compare to the SPD of the car. If the dates on the wheels are significantly AFTER the SPD of the car...that helps answer your question.

Also...check the trim rings. They should have a raised 'lip' on the inside of the ring and four clips on the back of the ring. Style 1 in the picture.

My broadcast sheet says T87 on T-U-W tires and on wheels: Road 61: Color TX9 which is black. Spare 16 and Wheel cover 24. What they mean and look like I really don't know. Hope this works for you somewhat.

Just curious what color your car is? Some of these cars look better with painted wheels and poverty caps than mags or rallyes.

I can't find my white books but I'm pretty sure that 61 means Chrome road wheels, 16 = steel spare tire rim and wheel cover 24 is the chrome trim ring.

If its the original drivetrain and the spedo pinion is set for 15" then your car came with the rare "recall" wheels. Otherwisw it was full wheel cover or Road wheel.

The SPD on this particular car is far too late for it to have come with recall wheels.

Even with an original drivetrain, it's pretty hard to know whether or not a pinion gear was replaced in the 70's to accommodate a new set of 15" Cragers or Keystones.

True one never knows what was done int he 70's, I had neglected to look at the SPD. Still would be nice to find the broadcast sheet because its not in the car.
