I'm going to be putting a Gear Vendors Overdrive on my '65 Satellite (383 w/ 727).
I was told by Gear Vendors that they only have a unit to fit the post 1966 and later torqueflight.

Not a big deal, just need to source a newer trans. My question is whether or not my current torque converter and flexplate can be used on the later version of the torqueflight?

Also, does anyone have a recommendation on a nicely built later-version 727 that I can get, other than something from Summit or Jegs?

Thanks for the help. Finally getting progress on this car!

converter and flexplate can be used if you get a 66 trans, 67 and up have a different input spline and the converter won't work.

Pro-Trans in California is who I used and they deal with racers around the nation plus there a
"Mopar Only Shop"

I also used a Gear Vendor and can't wait to drive it
I'll post pics later

Thanks fellas. Much appreciated!

Anyone know correct tailshaft length offhand? I don't have car close by for measure.

I'd use a 68 or later trans! 66-67 conv. won't work on later ones! You can change front pump if you use the 66-67. Flex plates are all the same!

There are 3 different shaft/adaptor lengths. I'm going to use the middle one as, to me, the long one which is normal passenger car length is too long with the GV unit hanging out unsupported. The one I got will have the adaptor end just after the trans crossmember. RV/Truck/Van applications had 3 different output shaft lengths. Another plus is there is a little more room in that area for the GV unit before the driveshaft tunnel narrows down. My trans is done by Pro Trans also. 66- application. It was put together to withstand being in a class 8 desert truck due to the weight of the car, 3941 without me in it, and with the hp and tq in the mid 6's. They put in a manual vb, full roller drums & shafts etc. I plan on doing autocross, drags and daily fun driving with it when its done. Getting to start on it soon since I now have the time to devote to it.

I see that. Looks great!! Am I going to be forced to cut the tunnel open to fit the GV unit? Really hated to hafta do that. I had originally looked into just adding an overdrive transmission, but couldn't really find a setup that would adapt well.

I have the car at a friend's shop getting some things done mechanically, but might end up taking it to a place that does these kinds of builds... I just don't have the tools, room, or familiarity with older cars to get after it myself.

That sounds like a great idea... shortens the length of the assembly.
