After driving the original untouched poly 318 for a year, my 66 Satellite finally has a new heart
383 block
3.9 crank
Eagle rods, ross pistons
Stealth heads
Mopar 484 cam
Eddy intake n carb

Runs great, sounds great, already broke one mustang ego

Like that power feel do you? Already racing her? Congratulations on the upgrade.

That looks great. Just curious . . . did you ever think about stroking that 318 before pulling it? I've got the original 318 LA in a Charger and can't figure out if I should stroke it or go with a big block I have my garage.

I had a 340 I was going to stroke but then I had a ride in a b body with a stroked small block (408) and wasnt impressed at all. These cars need the torque of a big block. The cost is the same, may as well get more out of it

Congrats on the transplant. Good looking car.

Interesting and thanks for your feedback!

QQBlue1, I am wondering the same thing stroke the 318, or go big block.

Orrrrrr stroke the big block ... If you really look at how much money you will end up spending doing the small block, why not just go that little bit further and make a killer engine

Very nice car and nice work. Ron

Looks cool
& congrats on the new bigger better heart transplant running well

:headbang: :3gears:

Very nice!

I'll bet the additional horsepower was a real kick in the pants!

Done a similar build with a 440 myself and it was lots of fun!

Yeah going from a super tired original poly 318 to this was a nice change. Throttle response is amazing on this one.

Mutt71,
I go back and forth. I had a 69 charger with a 440 20 years ago. Now I have this 68 with the original motor and transmission. I drive it a lot, like the the fact it is a little lighter in the front end. At this point in my life I don't really care for having tons of power, but I just want a little more torque. I built up the transmission with an extra clutch and larger sun gear (actually I rebuilt it twice with less that spectacular results and finally took it to a pro) which was helpful but also with the idea that in the future I may put a 4 inch crank in that 318 block along with a set of swirl port or after market heads. However, it seems most guys think the power, money and "streetability" considerations lean towards a BB or R/B. I'm starting to think the same thing. Therefore, I probably wont do anything until I'm able to ride in a stroked small block as cdn66satellite has done.
