Dana Install is about done at the shop. Just need to install the axles and brakes and then shorten my driveshaft then hook up the Cal Trac Bars, etc.
For my fellow MOPAR RACERS it cost me $2756.00 complete for the DANA. All MOSER parts...35 spline axles, 4.30-1 Spool. Used my drum brakes installed on the DANA housing. Price included all labor, new brake lines, etc..turnkey price
Also picked up my new Trailer today. Dana 1.jpgDana 2.jpgTrailer 1.jpg

Man just bleeding money.
Got any extra I need to pay for my Dana soon

Sweet looking trailer how's it pull ?

Where did you get the Dana from Mike? Nice trailer

said it's from Moser .
Bobtile. I got mine in the 65 Plymouth from there too. Very nice Mike. Good luck

Cool! And my open trailer is similar only the runners are wood but will probably replace the wood with diamond plate when the time comes.

Mine from Moser as well. I paid a little more because we opted for the Detroit tru trac.

Bobtile,
All the internal parts and axles, etc are from Moser...but the housing is NOT Moser, but from a donor 1 TON PICKUP truck from the boneyard, which I paid $200 for.

You're a sick man! LOL Although that rear end probably cost a lost less than the ones of the female persuasion. LOL

Question Mike - how much do have to shorten the driveshaft?

Hey Mike, are you using the truck drum brakes on there? They are pretty heavy.

I am having the shop transfer my drum brakes from my 8 3/4. As you probably know Moser sells axle "tips" which have the regular 8 3/4 MOPAR backing plate pattern on them. Then the shop welds these axles tips to the narrowed DANA Truck housing.

Question Mike - how much do have to shorten the driveshaft?

As of right now I do NOT know how much they had to shorted my driveshaft. They do have to shorten it because the DANA Center Section sticks out from the rear end more than an 8 3/4. I will know how much they shortened it when I pick up the car tomorrow and will post it here.

10-4 I'm ordering my Dana next week I sold my house finally and have some extra cash now .
My setup is about 2k delivered I am going with the 3.72 (or something like that) gear set I have 3.55 s in my 8 3/4 now it's a street car with a 4 speed so this should be good right ? Or is highway driveing going to suck still.
My camaro had 4.11 gears and it sucked on the highway

I would think a 3.73, or so, would be a good street gear. Still gives you some grunt but no too low for hiway.
Make absolutley sure you order the spring perches exactly right or otherwise the pins won't line up with the holes.
Or you could not have the spring perches welded on and then weld them on yourself or have a shop do it...ask Moser the best way, in their opinion.

Unless you have well over 500HP you don't "need" a DANA. And if you have a mainly "Street" car you probably wouldn't punish the 8 3/4 enuf to worry about it...ask a bunch of people for their thoughts before you pop $2000 plus a lot of work, for a DANA if you dont really need it...just my thoughts.

Yeah good point the car dinoed at the wheel s 458 and I'm doing a few things to the eng so I don't think we're getting much more then that maybe 465-470 max but I'm prity rough on my cars I drive the hell out of them. The 8 3/4 in it now is setup 3.55 sure grip but it has the small 741 case witch may be a problem in the future. The rear is also fully rebuilt and I was thinking of sticking it in my wife's charger since hers hasn't been gone threw yet . I looked at the new 8 3/4's and they look like there a few hundred more then a Dana? How does that work . The dealer I'm getting the rear from guarantees it to be a bolt it deal everything is welded and powder coated and ready to go any problems and he takes it back just like that . I pay a little extra but not much extra and any problems I'm not stuck with the wrong stuff he takes it right back and ether refunds me asap or gets the correct part quickly and it's all free delivery. I can't loose .and to add to it he said bring him back my wilwood disc brake parts and he will do the installation on the Dana when it shows up so it will just be a true plug and play. If my wife's car didn't need a rear I would just run the 8 3/4 till it gave up but this way we both win

Is The Dana heavier then an 8 3/4

Yes heavier
I ran an 8 3/4 in a 3750 lb Belvedere for 11 years. ( I sold the car- no breakage) Best of 9.88@ 135.
Spend your $ elsewhere.

Wait 1 minute, I know you've gone through a few 8-3/4" ring n pinions due to your massive torque and HP.

I know I tore up a 8 3/4 on the 440 car it was a brand new rear I think we had about 30k miles on it. And one good romp and killed the ring gear and it had the bigger case mine does have the little 741 that's why I'm considering the swap I'm just about done buying parts (thank god) I'm down to the rear ,steering stuff and front suspension stuff that's about it
