This older guy was having trouble with his computer. So he called Richard, the 11 year
old next door whose bedroom looks like Mission Control, and asked him to
come over.

So he came over, clicked a couple of buttons and solved the problem.

As he was walking away, the older guy called after him, 'So? what was it? What's wrong?
Richard replied, 'It was an ID ten T error.'

The man didn't want to appear stupid, but nonetheless inquired, 'An, ID
ten T error? What's that? In case I need to fix it again.'

Richard grinned. 'Haven't you ever heard of an ID ten T error before?''

No,' the man replied.

'Write it down,' he said, 'and I think you'll figure it out.'

So the older man wrote down: I D 1 0 T

Cute joke, but actually I feel it is closer to real life today than expected. The proper response to an adult from an 11 year old would be to explain the error respectfully, not to insinuate that he was an "ID10T". And, before people get all bent out of shape, I realize it is only a joke. I just think it represents the current attitude held by the younger generation towards the older generations, albeit not all kids act this way.

would you prefer PEBKAC (Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair)?

I got a kick out of it. Sounds like something my nephew would say - but then again he'd ask how to change a tire or his oil or something else. He always asks me "how do you know all this stuff". I tell him you accumulate it through doing it in life. Turns out it's a life lesson for him many times.......

Then you can tell your nephew to check the 710 cap (OIL upside down).

I like that one :laughing11:

In the military, the old teletypes in the Ratt Rigs needed to have the "headspace" adjusted for it to work correctly, and we used to say when asked what was wrong for different problems, it was OHS (operator head space).

At least it wasn't a bad Hemilator valve.....
