69 roadrunner Horn Beeps Intermittently

My 69 roadrunner horn has begun to beep intermittently when turning the steering wheel. It works fine when not turning the wheel. I have had the steering wheel off and nothing was found to be defective and no uninsulated wiring was found. Have any of you experienced this? If so, what did you learn? Thanks!

Clean the contact plates. Should help with that.

Are you referring to the removeal of the part attached to the steering that cancels the turn signals? If so, is this part easily removed? Once removed, is the insulator available for purchase? Thanks!

yes you gotta remove the signal cancel to get to it, it can be removed not easy though and im not sure if that insulator is available. I removed one from my bee wheel to restore the wheel was kinda a pain to get off but gose on a lot easier. once you get to the insulator you could find some similar material and make your own.

Yea I made my own insulator out of a piece of thin rubber 20 years ago, still good, any gasket material will be fine.
Make sure you put the cancel back in the same exact spot.

I have same issue, mine would blow when i used turn signal, I could wiggle turn signal and horn would blow. figured it was grounding out someplace but have not taken it apart yet.

No but thanks. It attaches to the steering wheel hub with a thick wire ring (turn signal cancel cam) and is made of thin flat copper and has a black wire that will connect to the horn switch like you have linked.

Great thread...I am having the same intermittent horn blow when turning my 70 bee. The horn pad itself is a little sloppy despite the mounting bolt being tight. Anyone have a pic or can point to any that shows the fix described above? The horn blowing was so annoying that I disconnected the horns but am nervous when driving..no way to wake up idiot drivers doing idiotic things. Any help would be great.

I bought a sheet of thin gasket material at NAPA and cut it to fit. Not a problem since.

Sorry but I don't have pictures. IIRC the gasket material goes between the copper ring and the hub. The trip ring wire must be removed and the gasket has to be cut in a circular fashion with a hole in the middle to slid over the hub. I used the copper ring as a template for the gasket.
