I know this has been asked 1000 times but the color of the lower control arm is a dip coating but i don't want to dip it but imitate the dipping i was thinking mix a brown/gold color into a clear coat and spray it on maybe tackle it that way.has anyone else have a better idea/way ?

No stupidity involved my friend. :D
I believe the binders are somewhat different in a true clear (made to go over a basecoat) and a specialty coating like Ricks, designed specifically for this application. The coating he sells is a translucent color and will darken the more coats you apply.

Don't get me wrong - your idea of a tinted clear may hold up fine. But it's not a piece that will be easily re-finished if it doesn't.

Though I've not personally used it, I've read battery corrosion protector also duplicates the look of factory cosmoline as well.
