MOPAR FANS!
I'm moving along at a slow but steady pace restoring my 1967 GTX. It feels good not having to rush and actually enjoy what I'm doing. As the body nears completion it's time to start prepping and painting all of the parts that make that body a car. I'm trying to find quality paints for my dash, console, metal parts, etc. There's a lot of restoration paints out there that claim they are the best when it comes to coatings, argent paint for the grill, tail panel argent, blacks, vinyl paint, plastic paint, metal look paint, etc., etc., and also claim to be the accurate colors. I'm also looking for panel board to restore my door panels. I was hoping some of you MOPAR enthusiasts have had the same issues and would share your experience and knowledge with me. The support I've received in the past has been phenomenal, but that shouldn't be a surprise since MOPAR FANS ARE THE BEST!!

I have used one argent paint for my grill and it worked great. But I use krylon semi gloss black for every thing black ,dries fast and lasted on my last car for years inside and out. and looks great. The price is reasonable.Nobody usually
knows what the real colors look like anyway

Over the years I've seen some reference to the suede finish lacquer for sale such as was used originally on the dash. Instead of that I had some eggshell lacquer mixed up to match and using a detail gun I sprayed may dash with light coats to prevent flow-out and build a suede-like finish. It came out pretty well although it would have helped to have the windshield out for complete access near the windshield. I ended up using an airbrush up close.

Several of my hard plastic parts had light scratches. Now, new consoles are available and that might be the best way to go. For my console and seat backs, I re-textured them with SEM texture spray. I had to experiment with it to get a texture that was similar in size to the original. Then to make it more original looking, I lightly and uniformally sanded it to knock the peaks off of the texture and create flats like original molded plastic texture. It came out looking very nice. With a close inspection you can tell it's not original as the resulting grain is more random in size than molded plastic grain which is fairly uniform in size. For soft vinyl parts I had some PPG interior dye (paint) match-mixed to metallic red to use. SEM interior dye is excellent if you have a black or white interior or can otherwise match your original color with their standard colors.

I refinished my steering wheel with PPG single stage urethane which looks as good today as 12 years ago. I had my dash bezel and glove box professionally restored, along with my front grill and rear tail panel.

This is mostly old, refinished interior and I plan to replace the seat upholstery and door panels before long. But overall it doesn't look bad.

This one has the refinished steering wheel installed.

I don't do the OEM look stuff, very often. I finish my cars to my tastes.
There are powder coatings out there, that resemble most any paint finish. I use combinations of whatever will work/look the best for my applications.

I have to get the exhaust , fuel pump , alternator, engine wiring in and dash and then I will be able to get it started. Then comes the Interior , vinyl top and side scoops , so I have a long way to go. Would like to be done by spring.
