So I have tried to track down the original engine/trans for my 73 bird but could only find the transmission. So i will be moving the 440/727 from the 74 satellite (which is a 73 date code motor home motor). The 73 440 roadrunners were GTX and im interested in seeing what decals/emblems were on the cars to identify it as a GTX if any as i have googled it and everything is different. Anyone have pictures of one in an original state or restored to original?

Hi 73, Ill help the best i can. pm me what you need. Please keep in mind its a holiday weekend and i may not check to often. Mike

The only ones I remember from my 73 GTX were on the powerbulge hood. My 72 GTX had the metal ones on the sides. There was nothing on the back or inside.

Really just on the hood bulge? They repop those or is it strictly trying to find them NOS or used?

I have an all original, one owner (me) 1972 Road Runner GTX. The GTX prior to 1972 was simply a Satelitte with a 440 and had BIG "GTX" emblems. In 1972 the GTX was a Road Runner with a 440 and had smaller GTX emblems. One on each fender, just behind the wheel well and one on the trunk lid. The trunk lid one was on the right side, next to the standing bird decal. For some odd reason, mine came with the GTX emblem on the LEFT side, and when I restored the car, I put it back there to keep the "uniqueness" of my car.

Hope this helps.

It helps but did anything change in 73

Yes...just about every thing changed. The grill, fenders, bumpers, all were different. The '71 & '72 were similar since they were the Mopar answer to the banned "winged cars" of 1970. In '73 NASCAR outlawed the Hemi and Chrysler stopped "playing". Hence the "aero" cars went away. This was "helped" by the emissions and gas shortages, hence the era of the true "muscle" car died.

How about the badging and interior on the 73 GTX

Can't help much. Only '73 Road Runner I've seen belonged to a guy in our local Mopar Club and left probably 8 years ago. Searched all my photos and can't find a single one of his car. I do remember it was red and had a 340 engine, and I would guess didn't have many parts that were the same as my '72. I don't think there were many '73 440s made which I assume in '73 would have been the only way it could have been a GTX.

The only GTX badging on the 73 Roadrunner/GTX was on the power bulge hood. Under the GTX badging on the hood was a 440 decal. That is the only place the GTX badging was placed. That is how it was on my 73 Roadrunner GTX. I have had my car since 1976 and am the 2nd owner.

But since I've installed a 426 Hemi I change my hood badging to include a 426 Hemi under the GTX.
