New parts on old cars

New parts, old cars? How about EFI on a 512 stroker, hydra boost on an old 65 Plymouth, G3 alternator replacing yesterday's outdated charging system utilizing an outboard voltage regulator, disk brakes on any old drum brake vehicle and TTI exhaust systems. All worth every penny of investment to add to the pleasure of driving.

Did you take that EFI off the shelf as it was built for a new dodge and not an old one. That is what we are talking about. Taking parts that were made for newer cars and being able to bolt them on your old muscle car. Like the starter I mentioned for a 1988 Dodge Ram 5.9


Also where would I find an article to use the G3 and is there any changes I need to make? Also what are the advantages?

I never liked the factory power brake systems on the cars back then but two old cars I had were pretty decent. One was a 70 383 Challenger and the other was a 71 340 Cuda. Both were also a disc/drum set up. Most of my cars over the years were manual drum but they were also upgraded with better parts and pads (shoes). Two race cars of mine both had manual systems....of course. One was a high 9 second car with 4 wheel disc and the other was a 10.60 car with 4 wheel drum. The drum car was slower but was also heavier by around 450 lbs and imo, that car stopped just as well as the disc car did if not better. The disc car did have the light weight drag race brakes but didn't seem to stop all that well to me for being 8 mph faster. I'm not well versed in power set ups so you'll need to talk to others with a similar car or talk to the brake manufacturers for their recommendation in what you want.


My 1968 Ford Mustang GT with a 302 had power brakes and seems to stop a lot better than when I drove my Satellite without power brakes. So that's why Id like to have power brakes
 
I will add that I have the plain manuel front discos from SSBC. I easily stop my 3900 lb brick from 145 MPH at the track.Rear discos are on my bucket list.

Did the Stang have front discs? Being a GT I assume so but no telling about Ford. Discs generally take more pressure to operate and is why you always saw power on factory disc brake systems. It was a lot easier to make them work well so that's how they did it. My 66 289 Mustang Fastback had manual drums all around and it stopped ok but not as good as my 66 Belvedere did with a 383 in it. The Stang weighed 3050 and the Belvedere was 3600 and both had 10" drums but the Belvedere's were 2.5 wide in the front and the Ford was only 2". Both wore upgraded shoes. There's a LOT of variables in brakes with both systems but front disc usually only comes with semi metallic pads. You can get semi met for drums too but it will wear the drums a bit faster but so what. Thing is, you can get all kinds of different materials for brakes these days and you can play with pedal ratios for better feel and the list goes on. As for power....I've always had strong legs so power brakes mean very little to me but at 5' 9" and 210, I'm no brute. The weight is mainly around the middle lol

I had front discs on that Mustang. I have front discs on my Satellite but its not power brakes
 
Not exactly common to have discs on a Mopar from the factory and be manual....

This car is a Frankencar as I like to call it. It has a lot of weird parts. The original satellite was a 6cyl, then someone put a 440 motorhome motor in it, the hoses from 73 don't fit it so I had to go up to 76 in order to get hoses to halfway fit, and the neutral safety switch doesn't work as it still has the clutch in it from when it was a 6cyl so the clutch needs to be pushed all the way to the floor to start the vehicle.
