Ever increasing threat of home invasion, so I bought:

Nice piece of iron. I'm partial to the Mossberg 500 platform. I have the 590, 9 shots of 00. never had a misfir e failure to feed in years.

I like that Mossberg also
Our Securtiy troops at Edwards have the Mossbergs

This gun I'm getting is at the Base Exchange/BX/PX
No tax, and a 10 percent off price of $304

Oh forgot, I have a SOCOM too

It's not me, although, but I do love it too...
That was pilfered from a MarPar Post...

But :thankyou: have a great weekend, drink a few for me too...

I looked at those pretty seriously a while back. I read of some feeding issues if it was tilted. But what has stopped my purchase is the operation. Pump once pull trigger twice. It is contradictory to all training before. In a shtf situation I dont want to be limited to one gun. You can train to be extremely efficient with this weapon but if the need to use a different pump arises seems you would have to change your way of shooting. Just my opinion

Let's talk about this. I'm a novice. If someone comes in the house, they won't leave.
That's hemi-orange paint on the site. Going to the range to see if I can actually hit something. 10 pound trigger pull, no safety. If I drop it - it should not go off. When the trigger is pulled, it WILL go off. Easy to load. Like the Coronet, reliability is equally as important as performance.

Hmmm....interesting thread. Ghost likes it. Lets see...Remy, our Great Pyrenees Mountain dog is just passing 95 lbs now, he's 8 1/2 mths old, and 30 inches tall. Read up on them, they were and are breed to guard their flock at night. He's a big puppy during daylight hours but after dark he is wired for sound. Talk about a deep bark, he's a scary dude. He actually walks the perimeter at night, not kidding. Sleeps in the bedroom doorway. Once he's full grown he will be around 140-160 lbs and 3 feet tall. Right now when he stands up on his back legs he's as tall as I am. 6 ft 1'. The other dog is a rough coat collie with big ears and loves to bark. Between them if an intruder does get in he will be devoured. Barring that they have to deal with me. Shoot first ask questions later. No CCW needed in Vermont. This is a carry and kill state. I also live in the sticks in rural VT where no sane person dials 911. State trooper once told me I would be fine as long as the round goes through the front and they are inside of my home. I have the means to blind any intruder for at least 5 minutes, regardless of their position in my home. They wont even see the buttstock coming at them. Vermont residents, killing bad guys since the beginning.

870 is the most reliable shotgun... period.
Load it with some 2 to 4 shot and you have new found piece of mind.

God forgive the fool who breaks into your house

Great reliable gun. However, it's really for up close and personal situations due to the small barrel. At 7 yds, I can usually get all 5 shots on paper. At 10 ft, I can shoot 2-3" groups. So def aim for center of mass and don't try to wing the bastard in the arm !!!! LOL. I love it because it's so compact. You can keep it in a jacket pocket and no one knows it's there.

Also, get some good self-defense ammo for it. 38 special, even in +p, is a weak stopping round. Get some Black Talons for it or maybe some Glaser.

To each his own. I have had Mossberg 500's for over 30 years and never had one misfire or failure to feed.

That gun has great stopping power within 15 yds. The .38 spl is one of my favorites, used by law enforcement for decades. Anything you shoot will have a large exit wound and will not likely survive.
Use cheap ammo for practice and good ammo when loaded at home or used as a sidearm.
Nice gun

I have one of each an 870 and a 500. They are both good guns. The Moss berg will occasionally jam with cheap ammo, the 870 has yet too. Both guns are rugged and tolerate being abused and neglected which is why I love them. Each has been submerged in water when the canoe tipped. Used as a boat oar because I lost the real oars when the canoe tipped. Ect.
Great guns

I picked up a smith & wesson M&P 15 right before the election. Just in case. But I am sure glad I did, it's fun to shoot, reliable as hell, and I'm gonna set it up for winter jackrabbit hunting, and summer racoon hunting. I hope I never have to defend myself, I likely won't have to, living in wyoming.

Old picture, but since then I've put a bumpfire stock on it (makes it shoot like 700 rounds per minute, if I want too.) and I've got a 100 rd surefire magazine not pictured.

Wyoming great. People of lesser character aren't likely to get past the rugged terrain. The EBT cards would expire and their hoods wouldn't hold up to the weather

no way they'd stay. Just last friday, at work, it was -40 degrees outside, (counting windchill)

I owned an 870 and all my buddies had Mossbergs, my only beef with the Mossbergs was they rattled quite a bit in the pump action but were good guns. The 870 just seamed better built although neither ever jammed or misfired. I now hunt with a Bear compound or a Marlin 45 70 lever action, Ohio just started allowing the use of straight cartridge rifles.
