Title says it all. What is everybody using in our engines? I know Lucas has a muscle car oil that supposedly has more zinc for the flat tappet engines but of course everybody says theirs is the best. Conventional vs Synthetic, you get the idea. Comp cams also recommends using their break in additive at every oil change so what's your opinions on that as well.

Brad Penn. The only downsides I've found to synthetics are....cost, and if your engine could leak, it will leak with synthetics.

Whatever synthetic is on sale. It doesn't really matter. Change it every 5,000 miles...Probably too often.

My daily drivers as well. Over 230K miles on wife's '99 4Runner (bought in '02) and almost 200K on my '95 Dakota 318(5.2L) 4x4, of which I am the original owner.

Others are more picky.

I down with Lucas,Oil - buy it direct from SummitRacing

Amsoil. Signature synthetic. 10-40 in the big block. High zinc. 0-30 in the modern Mopars.

My opinion is that motor oil is a good thing.
Particularly in an engine.

I use the same oil in my 2003 Pathfinder as I do my 1962 Belvedere solid tappet motor..
..Mobil One Synthetic High Mileage 10w 30. ZDDP content is 1200ppm which seems to work very well in both motors. Using ot around a year in the 318 and I haven't had to adjust a valve at all. $25 / 5 quart jug and Mobil One has a rebate deal where you can get $10 per 5 quarts of oil.

i got a chance to talk to an oil scientist from chevron.it was through my company.he said to run the havoline 15/40 oil due to the need for zinc % with my flat tappet cam.has worked great so far and the price is way less then other oils with that zinc %.just so happend the scientist restores really old motorcycles.they have the same needs as flat tappet cams for zinc.

I have sold Joe Gibbs Driven Break-in, HR Street, and Race oil with zero problems for over 5 years now.

I use Joe Gibbs Driven HR oil in my flat tappet engines.
