Hi all,
Have a slight problem, Getting ready to install new Flowmaster Delta mufflers on my reproduction tailpipes 2-1/4 I bought from yearone about 13 years ago and never installed them until now. Problem is the outlet on the muffler is 2.250 I.D. and the tailpipe O.D. is 2.274. What the heck happened there! The tailpipe O.D. should be approx a 1/32 or smaller than the I.D. of the muffler. Am I wrong or does it look like I will be buying new tailpipes and who should I buy from?
Thank you! Dave

The bigger problem will be the cabin noise with the Blowmasters.

you could take the mufflers to a muffler shop and have them expanded the openings a bit to fit the pipes you have. I have taken used mufflers (to my exhaust guy) that were installed with the muffler clamp dent (he expanded them) so i could use them with some new pipes and he never charges me. It took less then a few minutes to due the job.

Thank you, I was trying that last night with one I rented from O'reilly's. I opened it up probably about 1/64 of an inch was just too afraid to keep going. I had to start using my impact to get it to open up that far. Guess I will just have to try it again.

Take a hammer and tap around the pipe with pressure on the expander. Loosen, turn, tighten, hammer around the pipe, repeat.

Bought a crappy muffler expander on ebay. It worked ok needed a hard washer to keep from chewing end up.
Without using an impact wrench it won't work well. I wouldn't want to break O'Reillys. I didn't give a crap about the one I bought, considered it a one time use. With the hard washer added it survived for another day.
Expander $30 for a 3 piece set.
