Question on the support "rib" that is right down the middle of the underside of the deck lid.
I have a WS23, early Sep. build, that does not have it. I assume from the parts book (23-19-8) there was an early 70 version before the wing was offered, and then a later sheetmetal revision to add a rib for the optional wing, where this strengthened version was used across the whole line whether winged or not. Assumed two versions, but here are pictures for 3 different scenarios:
pic1. No rib, no holes for wing (my green)
pic2. Rib, no holes for wing (banana)
pic3. Rib, holes for wing (white)
Number (2) doesn't fit my assumption, and I wonder if there exists a (4) No rib, wing holes? Anyone have some insight to guide my parts search?

Good info and pics. Mouton Al had 7 super birds that would never sale so they sent them back to Chrysler. Chrysler made them back into Roadrunners. Your tip might be a way to know one of those cars.

These are for the Go Wing. Not too many on Coronets, but they're out there. Don't know if it was offered as an option on early orders. The Superbird wing mounts on top of the quarters with inner trunk bracing so the trunk opens freely under it.

I may have to pay big money to a body man to fix this bent up lid since I haven't seen one around without the rib.

my 70 GTX is an early build and has no holes for the wing, later ones did.

bump . . .

This "rib" would seem to counter plans to add rear crumple zones, that is if they had to with early 70 legislation. And ribbed lids without wing holes means it wasn't to stiffen for Go Wing offered about January 1970. Also the center crease on the topside offers rigidity for the skin. Wouldn't think there are different vendors as well.

I have not seen this discussed anywhere, so if anyone has pics/build date of your lid from an original born-with car we'll have these for posterity.

My '70 GTX is May 27, and does have the holes for a Go-Wing.:)
