adjustable pinion snubber

I know how they function, but I have no experience with them Typically, on the average, how far from the floor should they be set, for drag racing? And on the street? Not SS springs, but are heavy duty leafs.
With no rear seat passenger, and not real bumpy roads, how far from the floor could I set it without constant beating on the floor---normal driving? Thanks for any input................................MO
 
Start with an inch, and adjust accordingly.
 
DC Racing Manual #30 recommends 1/2" -1" for 4-speed cars and interestingly enough says automatic cars don't require one except for safety.

That is interesting, since standard, or automatic trans both have the same effects on the springs. You still get spring 'wrap', and the snubber counteracts against it.
 
The Dynamic Rise theory was very influential then and it seemed the AT cars didn't hit as hard as the 4-speed cars did in that era. There was the clutchflight, but 4-speeds were very popular. The sequence of rise, weight transfer and then the rear end squat that actually contacted the snubber was awful quick in a stick car. We street raced in the 70's with a 69 RR, 4-speed, cheater slicks and a bottle. It had spring clamps and we jammed the snubber up against the floor to force weight transfer. Little tires and slick streets were just something you had to live with when you tried to go the sleeper route. Non Mopar guys would race you all night long when you had hubcaps on the back wheels and no traction bars. We even crammed Chrysler Imperial mufflers under the car to make it super quiet. The Manual was the Bible in those years and anyone would race a Mopar. Fun times.
 
Yep.
First car I had was a 63 Sport Fury ragtop, Golden Commando 383, 727, 8 3/4" rear, that had the stock snubber on it. Never thought about it, back then (mid 60s), but the springs on the rear seemed heavier, than stock.
Plenty of times, folks would make a point of telling me, they were surprised, watching the car taking off hard. Told me the tail of the car would immediately raise 4-6"! Hehe, sure did feel good!
 
You're not that far from where we raced. We ran Bell Helicopter, Miller Brewery, lots of other places. I was at the final race at Green Valley. Carswell for 12 years.
 
Hey Cornpatch, I have mine set about 1/2" from the floorboard and it doesn't hit the floor unless I nail it & I have A LOT of potholes in Chicago....some deep enough to trap a tiger if you put straw over them.
