Well I guess i'll weigh in here....First off, grab a set of night vision optics and look up on a moonless night, away from any ambient light. You will be amazed.
Second, in all of the years of human life we have not been able to travel farther than our own moon. So we don't know squat.
Third, there is our own tiny solar system, in the Milky Way Galaxy which features billions upon billions of planets in who knows how many solar systems, which is but one small Galaxy in the vast universe full of billions upon billions of Galaxies. So, do the math here....many trillions, and then some, of planets, 99.99% of which we have no idea about who or what may have developed on them.
Fourth, just because OUR form of life has developed, or been created, in the last how ever many years, we should not assume that ALL OTHER life forms, if there are any, have also experienced the exact same set of circumstances. OR, that they look like, are built like, or are anything at all like US.
Fifth, while we think we are the big cheese in all creation, it aint true. The tiny planet we inhabit is virtually invisible even from as close as our OWN galaxy. So why should we assume that any other form of life, no matter how advanced they may be, can A. See us, B. Care about us if they can see us, or C. would want to take the time to visit us, for what ever reason, across the vast reaches of space and time? Are we THAT interesting? I highly doubt it.
Sixth, There may have been, or may not have been, civilizations in other parts of the Universe that predate ours by many, many billions of our years of time. In those many billions of years should we believe that those civilizations, should they exist at all, are just NOW becoming so interested in little 'ole us that they keep popping up in random sightings but don't actually land and say, " take me to your leader?"
Seventh. Just because WE feel the compulsion to catalog and quantify every damn thing, it doesn't mean that any other beings feel the same need to do so. So, there may be zillions of other folks out there that have no idea we are here, and never will.
OR.....Eighth, i'm full of it and we are like monkeys in a galactic zoo.
