Hey everyone im new to the forum and have a question about a 440hp i bought. The guy i got it from said it was pulled from a 67GTX after a wreck in the 80s. It had 79,000 miles on it. He pickled thw motor removed the pushrods and turned it over every few months as i have as well. The motor is cast dated 6-16-66 440hp on the deck 915 heads but id really like to know if this was a true story about the GTX as i wanna do a mild build and put it in my 70 sport satellite. Thanks everyone

either a 67 GTX or a 67 Coronet R/T....... engine was assembled oct 5, 66........ car was probably built a few weeks later

Thanks eldubb440 so the story holds water. Is this the holy grail of 440's?

it's worth something to someone with a oct/nov built GTX or R/T....... not much different than a non HP 440 of that era...... forged crank and rods, heads are desirable (closed chamber, 1 year only I believe)

Looks like the real deal. 915 heads were 67 only I believe. Nice score.. I have a 67 440 non HP with the smaller valve 915s but had a set of 906s that were done. Used a K-B revers dome or quench hyper piston and a CompXE268 cam. Runs real well with good street manners and nice power and torque. Good luck on your build and welcome to FBBO.

Could be 67 charger 440 car motor also which would make it one of 660 or so.

Having the HP stamp is worth considerably more than a non HP Block. The biggest value is the engine was built on my 14th Birthday! YEA!!!

They did, a friend in phoenix has one,a four speed. Good luck of course! I would trade my spare 440 67' HP engine just to have one dated on my birthday! Lol
Your sport satellite couldn't get a better engine.(prejudiced?)
My 67' 440 Hp is the nicest 440 I have ever owned. Smooth, reliable, and lots of balls if necessary.

my 68 GTX is a oct 24 build......... if that were a D440 HP, I'd be bugging to buy it

Can't wait to get this going. What are peoples feelings about a big mutha thumper cam in this like 30 over with a 6pack? Or am i thinking too big and expensive? I have the 6pack. I have the motor. ?? This has been a few years of collecting parts ready to finally be put together.

choose a cam according to the actual compression ratio of the engine...... over-camming it will kill it.........

Thats friggin awesome! Almost twins. So i have dillusions of a 3" exhaust with auto dumps shaking the ground. I guess ill talk with the builder here on long island for the cam recommendation based on my motor. But i want this to sound really healthy when its done
