Anyone use AMD's 68-69 Charger hood? Looking to see how it fits and finishes compared to an original. I know there is nothing compared to original, but is it close or horrible? Looking for opinions on it. Thanks in advance. Don't be afraid to include pics if you have them.

I just painted the under side of my 68 Charger hood, getting ready to install the engine and then put the hood on. You are right it is not as good as Factory but not horrible. The spot welds left sharp points that need a light grinding, in places the frame work needs to be glued or sealed better to the top skin. It measures like it will fit good. The Road Runner hood was the same, good but not great.

Mine came out good, dimensions were right on, had to cut and grind underneath by hinges where it ws bottoming out on the fenders (where the panel seams were welded and hanging over) which prevented it from closing in the back, also the pads where the 2 hood adjusters rest, needed to be moved about 3/4" other than those spot mine came out beautiful

Thanks for the quick response guys.....just kind of weighing my options. I located a solid original one about 6.5 hours away for about the same price as the AMD hood but that means I am in for a road trip.

I would buy it nothing like an original piece. I've driven many miles over the last few years for parts, its just the game.

That was my thinking. I am just trying to coordinate the trip but I am leaning towards the original hood.

here we are with the pics. this is where it was and where it is now. rubber adjuster. and overlapping metal by hood hinge, it was just extra material, cant see it now

Thanks again for the pics Don! after seeing that and how easy it was to alter that I am leaning towards the AMD. Alot less prep than finding an old ratty hood and then finding mud in it besides hidden treasures. Not a Hemi car or anything so that hood will be just fine.

Looking at a bunch of original hoods, I don't even see those extra pads for the hood bumpers, including the original hood on my Charger. Are they an extra add on by AMD? Anyone have original hoods with those on there? I also don't recall these being on my 68 Runner hood yet they are on the AMD repop. Guessing they maybe added these either later in the year of 68 or they add them to the repop for support? Anyone got any 68's they can take a peek at and advise either way?

Here is an original 69 Daytona hood and it is the same way.....no bumper pieces. This is how my original 68 Charger hood is and my Runner.

Is this something AMD added thinking it was helping or only on some original hoods? I understand the Daytona has a different hood design in some aspects, but this just shows what I was referring to. I have seen Chargers like mine without the supports. If they are indeed in the wrong spot and were an add on, I will just remove them all together.
